SI Article
SEC on CBS was still the top college football package, but experienced a 10% drop from 2016 (combination of a top heavy league and a bunch of blowouts).
The most viewed college football games of the year were the Iron Bowl and SECCG.

This is only TV right? Not taking streaming into effect?

OP is actually a dullard......
from the article itself
Individual ratings were down for some network channels, but total viewership across the board was up..........

“If anything, I’d say the interest was higher this season compared to some prior years. If you look at total minutes viewed for college football, it had to be some sort of record this year.

There's no actual data confirming that in the article though, just him saying it had to be some sort of record.

I doubt it takes into account streaming, but I’m not sure...

Basically, the author did a horrible job of titling his piece.
To title it "Ratings are on the Decline", when the expert you interviewed said the opposite, is great journalism.....

These kids don't know how good they got it. Getting brain damage for a General Studies degree is pretty sweet.

It’s Richard Deitsch... he’s got an agenda for sure.
We can spin it anyway we want, but a 10% drop in one year is significant. So much of the leagues money is tied to the success of tv deals... it’ll be interesting to see what happens in 2018 and beyond.

Saban effect. He is now killing college football.

So you think maybe the networks are spinning these numbers to maybe save some cash the next time the contracts are being reworked? I tend to believe their measurements are down, but I doubt they have figured out how to account for streaming, sling TV, etc. That 10% could very well be mostly if not completely absorbed by other means of watching. But why admit that if the headline number plays to your bottom line?

Numbers are down for CBS bc the games were trash... Bama/Vandy... Ut/UGA... UGA/UF... UGA/UK.
The East needs to get its shite together asap.

CBS’ picked the wrong games to televise. They were awful, for the most part.

A CBS game is almost unwatchable because of the commercial breaks.....unreal!

Agree and add that Danielson can't go more than 5 minutes without sucking on Saban's and Bama's nutsack even when he's not doing their game......He did it 3 or 4 times calling the Army-Navy game this past weekend. Need to get rid of his arse and bring in Todd Blackledge.

SEC has a 15 year contract (signed in 2008 and extended in 2013) with ESPN paying them $133.3 M per year that will not expire until 2028. CBS' paltry $55 M per year contract will not expire until 2023-24.

Hhhhhmmm.
Seems Alabama just needs more games on CBS/ABC/ESPN primetime to save CFB.

I’d say college football fans were winners this season. There are options galore on TV, and that doesn’t even include improvement on the streaming front...
CBS's SEC package was the most-viewed individual package for the ninth straight CFB season...
ESPN was easily the most-viewed cable net for CFB

Alabama is still a draw, but there is a limit on the number of Alabama games the network can air
In terms of which teams drew the most viewers, Alabama and Ohio State had four games that ranked in the top 15 among single-game viewership. Michigan and Auburn had three. Oklahoma and Georgia had two each. Clemson had none.
1. Alabama-Auburn (CBS) Nov. 25: 13.657 million viewers.
2. Georgia-Auburn (CBS) Dec. 2: 13.466 million viewers.
3. Ohio State-Wisconsin (Fox): Dec. 2: 12.918 million viewers.
4. Florida State-Alabama (ABC): Sept. 2: 12.335 million viewers.
