Was listening to a national discussion about expansion and they debating teams that would be left out if there was a complete Big time restructuring of the top 40-45 programs..

Let’s say they went with 44, 4 - 11 team divisions.

The following schools are the only programs to be named AP national champion in the modern era (1945) at least twice 2X

These 17 are in for sure..
Alabama, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State
USC, Miami (FL), Nebraska, Georgia
LSU, Clemson, Florida State, Florida
Texas, Auburn, Tennessee, Michigan
Penn State

27 more spots ; I just wonder who would be left out...

Football should be completely separate from all of the other sports for both conferences and divisions.

I'd even be in favor of a single entity for the highest level of college football with relegation every few years.

Basketball powers should be able to put their football teams in D-II if they wish.

D-II football powerhouses should be able to "move up" their football programs without having to bring the rest of the sports along with it.

College athletics needs to be completely torn down to the studs and rebuilt from the ground up. College football should feel like a supercharged version of high school football instead of a minor league NFL. No more lowering admissions standards for athletes. These hired mercenaries who don't give a shite about the school or the fans need to go play elsewhere.

No more classes that exist solely to keep football and basketball players eligible because of how easy they are. Get conferences back to what they're supposed to be.

The problem with relegation in CFB is the very fast roster turnover. Teams can go from shitty to great and back to shitty really quick. There's also not 45 teams of parity. It's the top 5 or 6 then everyone else.

Most watched teams 2022

Too many to list, post would last forever, but I would think anyone who is averaging less than a million on this list would be in danger of being left out.

If you did this, then to fix the parity issue, the next thing that would have to go is players getting to select where they play. I would recommend a similar system to how medical students get assigned their residencies, called ERAS, computer generated system where players list schools, schools list players, and a computer generated algorithm matches them up.

These are the Top 17 for sure… albeit Nebraska and Miami are questionably lower than a few in the next tier.

The next tier would be Texas A&M, Michigan St, Oregon, UCLA, Ole Miss, Arkansas, N Carolina, and S Carolina

The next group after that would be Missouri, Miss St, Virginia Tech, NC State, W Virginia, Kentucky, Arizona
