completely unnecessary at this point, especially given the convoluted and Byzantine way the participants are determined due to the bloated conferences. However, it makes a lot of money, and because of that it I see very little chance they get rid of it anytime soon.
I agree it’s way too lucrative to give up at this point. It’s a shame because I think 12 teams really is the ideal number

Get rid of the automatic byes for conference champs (guarantee them a spot if you want, but not a bye), get the 1st two rounds on campus and I think it's a pretty good sweet spot to both keep the season important but also expand the sport to give more regions more excitement and more hope.

But yea, gotta figure something out with the conference title games.

Honestly, if not for a bye why would any team want to play in a championship game if they're already in the playoff before the game?

It's one extra game that every other team doesn't have to play. At least with a bye the winner doesn't have to play an extra game.

If you do away with the byes, you have to do away with CCG's.

Agree, that would be best all around

In most leagues it would matter because it guarantees you are in the tournament (ACC, BXII, best G5), but in the B1G and SEC teams in the title game are likely already in, so you are right.

Thanks for putting this together.

I wonder how long it will be before we see some sort of NET equivalent for the committee?

One thing that stands out is that Home/Away/Neutral aren't really accounted for as methodically in college football discussions.

Even though everyone would usually agree that beating #30 on the road is probably harder than beating #20 at home.

I've contemplated doing that and am probably going to give it a run sometime this week.

Quad 1
H vs 1-15
R vs 1-30
N vs 1-20

Quad 2
H vs 16-40
R vs 31-50
N vs 21-45

Quad 3
H vs 41-60
R vs 51-70
N vs 46-65

Quad 4
H vs 61+
R vs 71+
N vs 66+

Their best wins would be Duke and… Louisville I guess?

You can really thank Duke for SMU even being in the discussion.

SMU turned the ball over 6 times and Duke still failed to win at home.

Add a column for TV producer wants them.

I think they want Alabama/Georgia/Tennessee to matchup on campus with Notre Dame/PennSt/OhioSt

They will put Indiana at Iowa St.

Byes
Oregon
Texas
SMU
Boise St

If top teams hold serve.

Clemson could knock Bama or Georgia out of playoff-maybe.
