When I was on athetic scholarship at a smaller school in Alabama, I could pay rent and buy food for less than the school provided housing and meal plan they forced us to get for staying on campus. I can understand why he is frustrated. I wouldn't have put that on twitter though.

Do they usually just get the same amount each semester? Thus if they moved out to a place of cheaper living they'd actually get more of their scholarship money in their own pocket?

When I was in school (02-06), the scholarship had a monetary value, so yes, I would pocket more for what I could save living off campus.

Yes and trashing the University that you play for and telling all recruits that Arkansas will not take care of you is certainly the best response. Only at a crumbling program with no leadership would a player send a tweet like that and expect no consequences.

well, most players are completely clueless of their situation... I can't imagine arkansas is doing less for student athletes than anyone else in the conference, or NCAA for that matter.

The program is far from 'crumbling' and if you read the reply tweet from the school, it seems that there may be 'consequences' (probably just a good 'talking to'.)
Listen, I have found myself more than once having to get by a few days without any funds. It is a bitch. Evidently, for some reason they were expecting the checks to get out before the holiday instead of after.

Then they need to stop complaining that they are getting more.
What about these poor freshman getting les than the off campus athletes. They should bitch too.

Crumbling programs are exactly the type that give reply tweets to football players who are bitching on twitter.

If the checks were late, then he should be pissed. It was irresponsible to put that on twitter though.

I think that's a great response by the compliance department. That way people/reporters know its being handled and it quashes a story that was starting to blow up on twitter. I mean this was posted on this board by an Auburn fan so they need to stop it quickly.

Regarding the checks, I heard they are late b/c the 1st was on Sunday and the holiday coming up. A secretary there told me she was getting hers Thursday too. Dunno.
