Clemson OC Chad Morris caught off guard by 'lack of juice'

On Wednesday, the reason for the sluggish outing for Clemson may have been revealed by offensive coordinator Chad Morris. Morris claimed that he was ‘caught off guard’ by the lack of energy by the team heading into the game.

“I was just a little bit caught off guard… not so much the first week, because you’re in that environment and you’re playing in a nationally televised game. There was a lot of excitement there getting ready to go, but, I just thought this past week when we stepped on the field… I don’t know what it was,” Morris said.

“There was no excuse. Lightning delay, whatever, I don’t know. I was just a little bit shocked, because that wasn’t what I was used to when I was stepping into the Valley with the teams we had. We had guys that were gonna get it done, or find a way to get it done, or you’ll call yourselves out on the sidelines. We’re gonna get after it. Was that surprising to me? Yeah it was a little bit. I was just looking around going, ‘okay, let’s go.’ I shared this with our guys. Going over it, sometimes I feel like I’m looking at the back of your head when I’m looking through your eyes.”

“We’ve got to have a fire about us. This is a brand we’ve got to ride high for. We’ve worked too hard to not come out here and take advantage of the seven opportunities we have to play in the Valley,” Morris said. “We have to show them and the staff that it’s not just them… it’s everybody. It’s all of us. We’ve got to have more juice with our staff.
“There’s no excuse. We all have to bring it. This isn’t the role of the players. This is us, and we’ve all got to bring the juice and passion and honor that we get to wear this brand. And, we will. I promise we’re going to do that.”
