Claimed National Championships

Yes, another off season thread, but if i don't get it out of my head, I won't remember it later.
The "Official" NCAA site (NCAA.Org) has not been updated since 2017, so I'm not sure if it can claim to be the official site, but it has a ton of good stats on it.
Many claim Alabama claims way too many titles, so that got me thinking.
The official NCAA site lists all National Champions from the beginning until 2017, and they list them by all major selectors that the NCAA recognized/recognizes. It includes a ton of selectors, so there are a lot of titles that they recognize that even the schools do not recognize. That said, here are a few teams National Championships that the NCAA recognizes:
Alabama-23
LSU-6
Georgia-6
Auburn-6
Remember it only goes through 2017, so some teams could get credit for more. Just checking another source for the playoff titles we would add:
LSU-1 (2019)
Alabama-1 (2020)
Georgia-2 (2021, 2022)
It is time consuming to dig it up so I will post the link if you would like to see about your favorite school.
I know Texas and Tennessee picked up some over what the schools publicly recognize, and i would think some others did as well.
NCAA.org
ETA
It would appear the link is not wanting to load for some reason. You can try copy and pasting it if you are interested. I am too lazy and not tech savy enough to fix.

It is on the books. People don't have to like it!

It's a bit time consuming, but I will go back and see, since my link refuses to work. Give me a few minutes, because I think it is interesting, too.

Claimed is stupid. It should only be AP or Coaches Polls. Thankfully, the BCS and CFP have always matched the Coaches Poll, so they don't need to be called out separately.
The only challenge is then 1869 to 1935.Those should only be for teams that claimed it at the time. No retroactive claims!

I just went to the ncaa site, it’s up to date with champions listed by year. Indiana is the most recent. Uga is only listed 3 times 81, 21, 22. In summary cool story auburn jr but you only got three

Well, probably, but the ones I mentioned are all named by a major recognized selector by the NCAA. That said, there are years in which 3-4 or more teams are named by at least one selector.
quote:I mean, that's your opinion and that's ok. But, it has been thought by a lot of people that some of the polls were heavily biased toward western and Northern teams. (Mainly Michigan, Ohio State USCw and ND.) I don't know if that is true, or not.

That said, Texas in 1970 was not selected by the AP or the Coaches Poll, so are you willing to say that Texas only has 3 National Championships?

My guess is you went to NCAA.Com, which is a truncated Reader's Digest version. The recognized site is NCAA.org.
NCAA.org
Not sure if this link will work or not. This, (if it works) should take you to the index page. From there go to National Poll rankings in the index.

This is known. We still have that bias. Those guys always get ranked highly.

You need to re-google the 1970 final Coaches Poll.

Ok. Tennessee is listed with 7 total and Florida is listed with 5.
AGAIN, to all those in the thread....this is from the official NCAA web site and includes all claims from the major selectors that the NCAA recognizes.

The Coaches Poll was released before the bowl game. So, you are correct. Texas is listed as the UPI champions. (It is small on the nCAA site, so I missed it. Sorry.
That said, since the poll was released before the bowl game which Texas lost...I would find it more questionable than some others.
However, the point of this thread was that according to the NCAA, Texas definitely would have been given credit. There are those on this web site that claims if it isn't AP, then it doesn't count....but i find that stance silly, personally.
In short, sorry for missing that in 1970 Texas was named by the coaches poll.
This is not meant to be some kind of gotcha, thread, I can assure you.

I get it. I'm not here to complain about Nebraska's #1 final 1970 AP ranking.
Note that the AP only switched final poll from before bowls to after bowls in 1968. And remember why both the AP and Coaches used to do it that way - bowl games were viewed as a reward bonus game not a playoff. That mindset shifted in the 1960s.
