Chris Low of ESPN with some interesting reminders re: Auburn to the East

Speaking on Knoxville radio, he said the original plan Slive had when Missouri and Texas A&M were added was to move Auburn to the East and add Mizzou and Texas A&M to the West but Alabama, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia all indicated privately to Slive they were against this move and would only approve the memberships (75% approval needed) assuming they were placed in separate divisions.
Also noted on the possibility of dropping the 6-1-1 permanent opponent format in favor of two rotating cross division opponents that 11 of the 14 schools are in favor of retaining the 6-1-1 format with LSU, Mizzou and A&M being in favor of a 6-2 format.
He said he expects both issues, as well as the possibility of a 6-2-1 9 game schedule to come up at the spring meetings. But said hard to see anything changing with the current stances schools have.

I'd be fine with Auburn moving to the East if they make it a 6-2-1 schedule.

Is 6-2-1 1 permanent 2 rotating or the opposite of that?

I like how Slive and Sankey bend to whatever the schools want. Manage the damn conference and forget about what any other schools want!
Do what's best for the conference and stop catering to a select few.

EVERY fan should start immediately petitioning your Athletic Directors and school Presidents. Bombard them with email, letters, telegrams, carrier pigeon express.
Let them know what you want as fans. MAKE them vote according to the wishes of the fans.
The only way to change the current stance the schools have is to force the people in charge to represent your wishes.

There is a lot of smoke about us moving to the east. This pleases me.

Sounds like teh Big 4 is running this conference per usual.

Mizzou and auburn should clearly swap. Not only does it make sense geographically but the East has become laughably weak. It would balance the divisions slightly. 6-2-1 is the solution but Saban was the only coach with the balls to vote for it last go around.

It was only 4 yrs ago Jay Jacobs was lobbying to anyone who would listen to move AU to the East and solve the scheduling problems. Fell on deaf ears apparently. LINK

So would Bama go with Tenn or Aub as their permanent?

The bottom line is that it seems of the schools who matter this is 4-2 right now. Unless Auburn could get UGA and UF to switch their stance on this it's hard for me to see anything changing.

These things happen over time, not with one request. Seems like the suits at AU have been laying the groundwork for us to head back to our natural territory. This would be huge for our recruiting. It will happen. Maybe not this year, but too many power people at AU are talking about it.
ETA:
And I read the OP as those four schools had an issue more with TAMU and Mizzou sucking at football and being punching bags for the west rather than AU simply moving to the east.

How does it benefit S. Carolina, Vandy and UK to have a stronger East?

There is no way to get something like this passed with a super-majority type rule in place.
