A player who just stepped in and dominated and demanded opposing coaches to gameplan against?

For a single game/title: Tua Tagovailoa (2017)

For a full season: Jalen Hurts (2016)

For long-term program trajectory: Julio Jones (2008)

Lots of defensive candidates as well, but Caleb Downs would probably be the one among a very good group of possible selections for the question.

It's a damn shame he had those injuries. He had an inside track to becoming one of the greatest of all time in the conference, alongside Bo and Herschel.

Dominated and game planned against don’t always go hand in hand.

I think the answer for Alabama is actually a few that haven’t been mentioned yet. Andre Smith might’ve been the best left tackle in the conference the day he arrived.

Trent Richardson was a monster as a freshman and capped it off with over 100 yards rushing in the natty

It's Herschel Walker. Not just for UGA but all of college football.

From 6-5 to 12-0.

Third place in Heisman balloting when 75% of the voters thought it sacrilege to give it to a first year player.

Broke the freshman rushing record.

Had more total yardage than our offense did in the national title game due to sack yardage.

Complete focal point of the offense. |

Someone in here said "Bo Jackson".

Comparison in freshman years:

Bo: 829 yards in 11 games

Herschel: 1616 yards in 11 games.

Bowl stats weren't counted at that time. He rushed for 150 plus in the Sugar Bowl against a Notre Dame defense that hadn't let anyone have 100. He did it with a separated shoulder that had to be snapped back in after our first series on offense.

Thought he was the best of the bama backs (in college), ahead of Ingram and personal preference over Henry (in college)

Maurice Clarrett or Jeremiah Smith. Both just came in and dominated and led the teams to National Championships.
