Auburn probably doesn't need to be hiring/firing people based solely on their record against Nick Saban when that is exactly what got them into this situation with Gus in the first place. Two of those three seasons where Gus beat Saban, Auburn still lost 4 games. I'd probably be more focused on the whole picture than how they're doing against one coach. Les Miles was 3-2 against Nick Saban once upon a time.

Maybe Freeze will bring some of those hot hookers down to the Plains.

I'm pretty sure our talent in Auburn exceeds that of Lynchburg, VA

Auburn will long for the days of Malzahn if they fire him. Freeze is so overrated. They better cheat like hell for him again. Just to get blown out by 30 in the swamp. They already have the guy that can beat Bama every now and then. It only gets worse with Freeze.

Bama is not the issue. It is losing to USCe. UT. Taking Arky down to the wire. The bar is set real low for Malzahn, and he struggles to cross it.

Basically $10 mil due in January and about $2.5 mil every year for 4 years after.

21 million I think.

This allows any school that might want hire Gus to only pay him the Butch Jones-level, state-mandated $30,000 a year minimum salary.

Lol. I promise, they wanted to see Gus come home. I'm not gonna say they were knowledgeable fans. But they wanted Springdale's finest back home.

How many people was this- 5?

The bulk of us have not wanted to come within state borders of him for years now. Some of us (me being one) for a decade at least.

That was last years money. It is now at 21 million. 1/2 due now, the rest over 4 years. We can keep him for years and the cost is 28 million.

So get Billy Napier at 4 million a year. So our true cost is 21 to Gus to not coach, 16 to Billy for a total of $37 Million.

Cost to change coaches goes down to 9 million.

It drops to around 15ish in a few weeks.
No, it doesn't.

Gustav’s deal went into effect on 1/1/18 and runs through 12/31/24. That’s 7 years.

To keep the math as simple as possible, lets assume he makes an even $7 million every season. That means at the end of this calendar year AU will have paid him 3 years ($21 million) and have him under contract for 4 more ($28 million).

His buyout is 75% of his remaining deal, so that means if we fire him as of 1/1/21 we would owe him $28 million X .75 = $21 million, of which $10.5 million would be due by 1/31/21, the rest paid in monthly installments over the remaining 4 years.

And unless I'm mistaken, the amount remaining on his contract is based on a monthly rate, not a yearly rate, so it doesn't drop significantly on any given date, just gradually goes down the first of every month.

So using the above math, Gustav gets roughly $580,000 a month, so his buyout drops by about $435,000 on the first of each month.

I’ve said it a million times before. I’ll say it again. Les was not fired because he couldn’t beat Alabama anymore, he was fired because he wouldn’t adapt to the times and kept losing to inferior teams like Arkansas and Ole Miss.

That’s what I think. Not being a jerk but unless a coach is winning at an unprecedented rate or championships, relationships sour over time. It’s often why you don’t see people stay at the same company more than just a few years before moving on.

I was going to say something snarky here about "marriages too" but that would be uncouth.

( edit - toned it down some)
