It is still amazing how ignorant posters are regarding Bert and why he failed.

That's what you get for hiring Aggy.

Just ask Alabama.

Very good choice based on what they knew at the time

Based on what metric? He was a hot name, sure but let's look some facts.

SMU three seasons before Chad: 13-24, 1 winning season.
SMU Chad's three seasons: 14-23, 1 winning season.

Clemson with Chad as OC (4 seasons): 1 conference title, no top 5 rankings, 11 losses, 36.25 ppg on offense.
Clemson without Chad as OC (4 seasons): 4 conference titles, 2 national titles, 4 top 5 rankings, 38.83 ppg on offense.

SMU's long term performance got no better at all with him as coach. Clemson's offense improved after he left. NOTHING about his record says this is the guy to rebuild a struggling P5 program.

What you're seeing now is what happens when ADs let internet message board chatter make coaching decisions for them.

What?

Most Arkansas fans had Morris as the 3rd, 4th or 5th option and the AD was hired the day before Morris. He had little to no say in who the coach was going to be

Was speaking of the 'hot name' phenomenon, not Arky fans directly. Everybody who had an opening threw Morris' name out there.

Nobody was clamoring for Morris. In fact, over there on our teams retarded board they were organizing protests against a potential Morris hire months before a decision was made.

Eh, even then his name was throw around more at the end after other names were crossed off. Seems like he was 3rd or 4th in order of who was targeted by the Arkansas Bot. Norvell was the hotter name but many programs have passed over him since then.

This is true, however, the program under Jones was trending down and finished 1-11 the year before Morris took over.

The exact opposite occurred under Morris with SMU finishing with a better record each year he was head coach.

I don’t know if he will be successful at Arkansas, but firing him halfway through his second season would be disastrous for the administration.

No way this is happening unless something happens off the field. There is a chance at the end of the year though.

Nope, he was the perfect choice as a HC for Arkansas.

Jones coached 2 games of the season before Morris took over. They had an interim staff that entire year. I included it because if you include Jones’ last 3 full seasons it looks REALLY bad for Morris.

They had a train wreck season, not multiple years of train wrecks like Tennessee or Arky. He didn’t face a major rebuild to get them back to SMU normal.

I can't remember the SEC having so many inept HC's at 1 time.
Chad Morris=Loser
Jeremy Pruitt=Loser
Derek Mason=Loser
There's probably couple more I could list but these are the 3 stooges of SEC HC's.

I agree. I'm sure Auburn will let him out of his buyout, if you ask nicely.

Why would a Kentucky fan have to ask nicely?
