Their formula seems to do a pretty respectable job ranking the top 10 but gets some wacky results the further down the list you move.

I hate that ranking, not because of auburns placement, but how they score it. and the main gripe is the points awarded for "Big Four" Bowls, Several of the teams pretty much had a tie in to one of the big four bowls for a large chunk of history as opposed to the others who were less than likely to make one of the bowls no matter their record

Being in a major bowl is a big part of what adds to a programs prestige though

Yes, but when you pretty much have a automatic spot, it gives you an advantage

#1 nobody has ever had an "automatic" spot

#2 College football has never been fair. There are a lot of teams who think the Auburns of the world in the big bad SEC have been keeping the little schools down for decades. It's just part of the deal.
