Curveball is his best pitch. He didn't submit an MRI pre draft and once the Braves saw the medicals on his wrist they were clearly concerned enough to low ball him to the extent they knew he'd decline and they'd get a comparable pick in 2019.

Using the stranger technique as well as being a chronic masturbator cost him millions

Arm injury and Braves only offered 40% of slot value.

And we are done here.

Yeah, he looked like a great pitcher coming out of high school but with the wrist injury the Braves developed a case of the cautious in signing him. Which is understandable, you don't want to tie up a ton of money in someone who you realize might not be at the level you though they were.

For Stewart taking a year to heal up and prove he still has his stuff is not a bad investment. Recover from that injury and show he still is a great thrower and he'll get a ton of money.

Simply a really lousy injury to what looks like a good kid. He's better off slow playing this and trying to get healthy before going in again.

That was before medicals came back and showed some kind of long term ligament issue. Hate it for the kid, but I don’t blame the Braves for not signing him, and I don’t blame him for not agreeing underslot

I think it all depends on how serious it is.

If it is serious as the Braves make it out to be, might be better to go to MSU where he will receive far better medical treatment then he would at a JUCO. The downside is he hates school and will have to wait 3 years instead of 1.

He'll probably go JUCO tho.

If it's a serious injury, then it would be stupid to go to JUCO.

Hopefully he is able to rehab the injury. A year or two rehabbing will, with luck, put him in a position to be drafted and paid at the level he was projected as.

Idk, Mangum said “Ring the bell” and tagged Moorhead in it after 4 PM. That is his go-to tweet when a commitment is received. Interesting timing.... time will tell.

All I know is we have a legit shot with Stewart and JUCO is not a done deal yet. We need to hire our pitching coach now and get our recruiters to work on him.

I should amend my comments to agree with this. MSU has a world class program that would do wonders to help him rehab from a serious injury. If he thinks he can bounce back in a year more power to him... but if not then grind out a few years at MSU or some other elite college program.

Unless he has really solid medical advice saying he'll be right as rain in a year, and I'm thinking the Braves had pretty darn advice he wouldn't, then I'd say go to Mississippi State. He can spend a couple of years rehabbing and then getting back up to speed.

Tough break for all involved but understand the Braves playing hardball here. Huge upside obviously if healthy.

Not giving your first round pick what he wants financially is retarded

Did the Braves really go that overslot elsewhere?

Well, it really depends. If he has a healthy season next year, teams might overlook it. If he goes to school, the issue might flare up and cost him a baseball career entirely. Either way is a risk.

I say go all in on him. You might have to rehab him for a year before he's throwing right... but he's worth it from what he showed in high school.

Or, because we are good people, send him up here to Arkansas and we will see what we can do with him. Out of the kindness of our hearts.

Brady Aiken a few years ago... 1st overall pick out of Cathedral in San Diego, only to find elbow issues in the physical.
Offer went from 8mil to 3mil... kid passed on it and went the Juco route.
Later signed for around 1.5mil...

Tough breaks.

That is a good point. I suppose its up to what his, hopefully very good, doctors suggest.

If it can be rehabbed then MSU would be a great landing place. If not... then you are right, take the money and run.

I think there's a really good chance he comes to Mississippi State at this point. Knowing his family, I think it would be tough to turn them down at this point.

They had the full slot still available but essentially determined they’d rather have the 9th pick next summer than Stewart with a compromised wrist.

They offered him the minimum amount required in order to get the pick next year.

Update from Collazo: "there hasn't been any conversation" regarding JUCO at this point
