Cancelation of CBS

Anyone in jeopardy of missing games because of CBS pulling their network off of Dish? I have the CBS app so it doesn't affect me but I'm going to cancel everything with CBS after football season if they don't come to an agreement.

I assume you’re talking about the dispute between Nexstar, the company that owns CBS 42 in Birmingham, and Dish. Nexstar had one of these disputes with DirecTV in 2019 that resulted in Nexstar stations being pulled from DirecTV for well over a month, but ended it right before football season started. So it’s actually not CBS the company that’s at fault, it’s Nexstar. Nexstar owns other local stations across the country that are affiliates for other media outlets (like Fox).
Annoyingly, CBS 42 keeps running that ticker across the bottom of the screen about losing CBS 42 if you have Dish. It always covers the score graphic during CBS college and NFL games.

Nope. Get my locals with a huge antenna in my attic. Everything else through Sling.

CBS is free OTA. Don't make this hard.

They do this every so often to leverage in contracts.

Thanks for the comments! Hopefully they will come to some sort of agreement with Nexstar soon.

I stream upstairs but I can't get signal downstairs. All I have is local channels on dish.

12-15 years ago when I had dish and they pulled that shite I installed an antenna. The DVR boxes had an additional input for the antenna, not sure if the new ones do though.

This was posted on the movie/tv board, but good explanation of how companies like Nexstar are driving our cable/satellite/streaming services up big time.

Yeah dish pulled my CBS. I got an antenna so not worried about it.
I think it’s bullishit though how Dish does this every time a contract is up. AND THEN HAS THE AUDACITY TO BLAME IT ON EVERYONE ELSE AND SAY THEY ARE DOING IT FOR THE CUSTOMER.
I haven’t had HBO in 4 years cause of Dish. I haven’t been able to watch Braves Baseball on TV in 2 years because of Dish. frick Them
But an Antenna is like $20 at Walmart. Just go buy one

Except DISH/DTV/ETC have nothing to gain from pulling CBS.
Nexstar pulled CBS, because they have the leverage. They know if they pull it, only recourse for customers is to blame DISH/DTV/Etc.
Thus they can force the providers to pay them maximum dollars for re-transmission rights.
I am not saying DISH is not greedy in this scenario at all. But at least point the finger at the right party here

Nexstar definitely holds all the leverage. They can charge as much as they want and Dish pretty much has to pay it because if they don’t people will legit leave if they don’t have their local channels. It’s just like Gas, They could start charging $10 a gallon for Gas and people would have to pay it because they got no other choice
My Guess is because it is Football Season that Dish will eventually cave in a week or 2

You are probably right... Guessing this might be resolved by Sat/Sun. Then we will see the 5 dollar increase on the bill next year.

Do you have dish?
No, I have Hulu and only do live during football season.
You should be able to hook up with an antenna and you'll even have less delay than over dish.

In Nashville we are losing ABC, not CBS. More concerning to my wife is losing WGN. I want to switch to YouTube TV, but wife doesn’t. I’m leary of my wi-fi also because it likes to act up.
