Or was season 1 with Johnny Football their best shot at winning the SEC
Logically you can say with the right hire you can see A&M winning the SEC. Somewhat like LSU pre Saban but unlike LSU A&M has not ever dominated their recruiting area.
With the move to the SEC A&M has somewhat removed their university from the Texas Football world especially in North Texas around the Metroplex
IMO they will always be the program in waiting

They've won the Big XII once (?) with only having to compete with Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska?

Now, with the gauntlet of the SEC? Nah.

Absolutely. They have the resources that no other SEC school does. All it will take is the right coach and time

Yes. Big school, big fan base, tons of money, texas recruiting. I don't think Sumlin ever does it though.

Their position in the hierarchy of Texas football has decreased since the move to the SEC

I doubt we ever finish higher than 6th in the West ever again. With Texas back as a national power and Houston and TCU now ahead of us in the state pecking order, there really is no hope. Oh, well. I guess we're a basketball school now.

Until they stop finishing in the bottom half of the conference in rushing defense consistently they won't win their division.

Nope. Their window has ended. Texas will be back to being Texas. It was a perfect storm that gave A&M the success they did. Johnny Football flipping from Oregon. Texas going to their lowest. Excitement from conference switch. New facilities. Heisman QB. Still fell short.

Doubt it. Aggy will likely never finish higher than 4th in the west

They have a long list of excuses for the sleeping giant to never awake.

All the advantages, none of the results.

They have always been second tier in every conference they have been in, yet they expect that to change in the sec, that is their gift, that is delusion.
