Mullen3:16 Can someone give me a legit reason why the SECCG is NEVER played in New Orleans? NOLA is the perfect venue to host an event of this stature, plus downtown Atlanta blows. Thanks.
THE reason why is because the Sugar Bowl committee doesn't want it to be and they have the power to not let it happen.

If anyone disagrees, it's only because they've never experienced their team playing in a huge game in Nola.
I've been and really do love New Orleans. But Atlanta is the more sensible option for the conference and this game.
New Orleans has - for all intents and purposes - the conference's biggest bowl game and has hosted the national title game countless times.
Why put the SECCG there when, clearly, you can spread the big games and tournaments across the conference?
ETA: New Orleans hosts the Sugar.
ATL hosts the SECCG.
Birmingham/Hoover hosts the SEC Baseball Tournament.
Nashville hosts the SEC Basketball Tournament.
Jacksonville hosts the WLOCP.
It's all just a big web of SEC athletics that connects the South and the conference. Kumbaya and shite.

Now that makes sense, I forgot that they don't operate under the GNOSF umbrella. Looking out for their own interests.

God no. There is a reason that a super bowl will never be played there again. I can only think of one place that would be worse...

Houston would be horrible - but for the reason the SEC doesn't want to cede ATL to the ACC is a reason why Houston is viable as a city. To much talent and too many eyes in that city.

Oh I get it...As long as the Sugar Bowl and SEC have the tie-in, I would very surprised if the SECCG is ever played in Nola.
That said, there's no question in my mind....the atmosphere and logistics and proximity of game/fun in Nola for a big football game blows every other city out of the water IMO.
and TBH, I don't want a "rotating" SECCG...I want it in one city where the goal is one place every year.....In other words, I like the fact that XYZ (currently Atlanta) is the goal every year and that never changes. I think it's good for PR/stability/recognition for the SECCG

A few points here, since all of the pro-Atlanta people are getting pretty petty:
1. Using the "power outage should barr New Orleans from all future football games" argument, there should never be another SECCG or SEC Tournament in Atlanta. After all, they had a tornado once.
2. If Atlanta wants the SECCG, let them have it. When it came time for the SEC to award its big new bowl game to, where did they go? Oh yeah, they went to New Orleans. They also considered Dallas. Atlanta they told thanks, but no thanks we don;t need to think about that one.
3. New Orleans is as Charles Kuralt said "The Unique American Place" There is a culture there, an art there that is like nowhere else on earth. It is known for its unique music, architecture, food, and its soul. Atlanta on the other hand is known for....um.....it will come to me in a minute....there must be something....burning down in the War Between the States...there ya go. I knew they stood out for some reason.
3b. Someone blindfolds you and drops you into the middle of New Orleans, you know where you are instantly. Drop into the middle of Atlanta and you will have no friggin idea.
4. The Superdome is an iconic stadium, ahead of its time, still one of the best after all of these years. As time goes on it will join a short list of the greatest of American Sporting venues. Super Bowls, National Championships, Final Fours, Sugar Bowls. America sporting history has been made there time and time again. The Georgia Dome on the other hand is a giant dump that Atlanta cannot wait to get rid of.
5. Finally, transporation...would you rather walk through the French Quarter and take a streetcar somewhere, or would you rather take Marta. Hmmmmmm.
Sorry Atlanta lovers. New Orleans is a one of a kind city. Atlanta is like everywhere else.

Don't lump me in with this guy. Atlanta is a great place that is also great for hosting events, including the SECCG.
Only reason I posted in this thread was to shed some light on why New Orleans isn't some shithole, as previous posters have stated, but is actually a wonderful place for all walks of life.

I love New Orleans, but this sounds like a literal nightmare.
Too great of a chance to be dropped in some place like St. Roche, St. Claude, Magnolia, 7th Ward, 9th Ward, Gert Town, etc.

Which is ideal for a bowl game, IMO, where you want to spend time in a unique locale, not a neutral site like ATL.

Unless, you know, you've never been to either city in which case you're lost and blind either way

Of course I do. It's not the tune of the song (upon which it is based) that's evil. It's the lyrics of that other song that are blasphemous and evil.
"I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel......
"As ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace shall deal........
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel,
Since God is marching on......."
Equating a marching army to God?
That's the full-on definition of blasphemy right there! No other way around it. And to think that some morons actually sing this song in church...........
Twilight Zone man.

We will still be in the running for semi-finals/national championships. Plus we already have a pretty big bowl game as well.

Every sport should have revolving championship sites. All arenas/stadiums/domes that can support a championship should have the opportunity to bid on game. It is sad that the SEC will not allow this.
This is the main reason why I have such disdain for the SEC officials and especially Mike Slive.
The fact that Atlanta has rights to the SECCG is obviously unfair to other teams not named Georgia. Now I understand that Georgia has never really did much to prove that the Georgia Dome gives them home field advantage but imagine if the Super Dome was the site for the SECCG every year. LSU or Bama would have a huge home field advantage against a let's say South Carolina. Or if it was in Tampa for UF, etc.
Just a thought
