No disdain for Clark. She's a phenom. But trying to act like what she's done beats what Pistol Pete did is laughable. She would need like 1200 more points or something to actually do that.
That said, I don't get why people are so bent about it. Of course the media is going to play her up. She doesn't fit their narrative beyond being a female but that's plenty. Print the Tshirts!

It’s nothing against her. The problem is the media trying so hard to compare her scoring record to what Piston Pete did.
Prior to her hitting the number she’s at, you never heard anyone talk about Kelsey Plum/Lanette Woodward(whichever total you agree with)being the all time scoring leader in WCBB right behind Pistol. Instead they were tops and women’s and he was tops in men’s. I dont remember them saying Clark has now passed Antione Davis for #2.
Now that they want men and women playing together, it’s all of a sudden a combined record.

And that right there is the most glaring of absurdities in all of this, besides the fact Pete only played 3 years and there was no 3 point shot. It’s NOT even the same sport.
But if it’s just pure basketball record, then Greg Procell scored 6,702 Points in his high school career at Ebarb High School in little old Noble Louisiana. Big surprise I’m sure, but he still holds the record.

I think she’s ridiculous for her flop from a fan but I don’t really care about her in general.

She's a great player. We beat her for the Natty. Any comparison with Pete's record is a joke. Any comparison between men's and women's sports is a joke. Next question....

Sure, Pete didn't have a three point line and only played three years. But one thing people never seem to mention but should be obvious--Caitlyn played against GIRLS.
How many more points would Pete have had if he faced all-girl defenses? Even if the rest of his teammates were girls?

I can tell you why the disdain exists- sexism! They cannot stand that a strong female has broken one of their sacred records.
I don't see 'disdain' for Caitlin Clark herself. She's a very talented basketball player and will be a WNBA All-Star for years to come. And I think she's just a good a long-range shooter as any player - male or female.
Disdain for the way the NCAA and the clueless media is portraying the 'All-Time NCAA Women's Basketball Scoring Record?' - that would be a Yes.
Why? Because these 2 records (Clark's and Maravich's) cannot be compared. They are not the same because the 2 sports are not the same.
It would be like comparing the all-time Women's Softball home-run record and the all-time College Baseball home-run record. Or the All-time Women's Basketball Assist record or rebound record or steals record vs the Men's.
These are two totally different physicalities, environments, levels of competition, etc.
None of that is 'disdain.' Just actual facts that exist in reality, not made-up-to-suit agenda facades.
Period.
