It’s definitely a very suspicious video. But in Mracna’s defense:
1. No, he has not been “lit up all season”. He had a 4.24 ERA going into last night. Which is honestly about average for a starter
2. He’s always been a high strikeout guy. 57 K in 36 IP this season
3. Sticky stuff mostly improves spin rate, not velocity, and he was shoving fastballs down their throat last night.
That video definitely doesn’t look good for him. But a lot of fake news being spread by Aggies on Twitter saying Mracna was basically a total bum before last night. Definitely not the case

Yep. Texas A&M barstool said his velo was “way up” but that’s just not true at all, nor would sticky stuff affect it much.
It’s the kind of thing people lie about when they don’t think anyone will bother to check them.

The whole fricking game is on the ESPN app. The videos are suspicious but only in the context of assuming it must be a substance. Nothing about his actual performance indicates he did anything that deviates from his normal pitching and talent

I’m more frustrated with how much the zone expanded in the 8th and 9th for the Ags.
Closer painted some and then the ump gave him some generous calls that had our guys chasing.
He was touching 96 pretty consistently which is 2ish more than his average. But I’d bet that was because he was closing versus starting.
Until we see spin rate comparisons when he was “hit” versus last night I don’t think we’ll ever know

The 5th strikeout was definitely Ump aided. Strike 2 in particular was marginal at best on the bottom corner after an 84 mph change and it clearly threw off Laviolette (I think it was)
Strikeout to end it was also a close pitch at the top of the zone

He touched 96 twice, both were outside pitches

The other thing nobody has mentioned is how pitchers typically throw harder as relievers than starters and vice versa.
He’s touched 96 on occasion this season, makes sense he would try to max out when he’s only got 2 innings and he’s had a full week of rest.

There's enough video of the bullpen and the game itself that if he did cheat there will be ample evidence. I'm sure it's being looked at and if there is anything there, we'll hear about it.

I did mention the increased Velo because of a relief appearance but my post was a damn essay so I understand no one reading it all.

Yeah, he’s definitely got something on his glove.
But I think if it was some heavy diet of crazy nasty curveballs I’d feel a lot worse about it.

Which… he didn’t throw a single breaking pitch so if there was a substance I have no idea what it could be in service of?

Checking his phone? Sneaking a vape? Playing with rocks?

Possibly a sticky substance that can help with grip on the fastball also.
But your coach definitely wants to get that corrected before he gets himself in trouble.

We will just let it quietly go away like JD Thompson and Vandy (who was actually ejected for a foreign substance all of a week ago and nothing was said about it since)

just getting better grip. maybe hes got dry skin? whatever it was would only help control, certainly not adding velocity so i agree its dumb to bring that up.

No Bulldogs were in a position to win without cheating.
Now that mofo gonna get his glove checked regularly for the rest of the year.
Very bad look for Georgia and their Coach standing there as lookout

I could provide some insight here as someone who threw at a few different levels, including pro ball, before substances were illegal and cracked down on. Looks like he is applying a pine tar or spider tack to a lace on his glove. With a black glove it makes it much easier to hide it on the exterior and thus easier to access seamlessly during an outing. If you have a lighter color glove you need to hide it inside of the glove under the folds where the pocket meets the main body. The fact that he has his fingers pinched together at the end kinda seals the deal for me on there being tack applied. Not an aggie or a bulldog, and I don't even think it's that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. Looks like he got away with one, good for him. Probably should be checked next time and it will all blow over. Also, if he did do it, it would add 300+ rpm to his fastball which takes it from good to elite or elite to unhittable at the college level.

Looks like his rpm was around 300 higher for this game, which matches the speculative post here.
