Discuss:

I think SC has about a 30% chance of victory based solely on nothing more than banter and not much else.

USC isn't playing UGA or Auburn this season, so I don't understand your question.

The game is later in the year, USC still has a very good running back (which they will need on the road) and will still have a good defense. Can Mike Davis carry the team over, what should be, a better Auburn team from last year on the road? Thompson will have to do some work to help for sure.

I personally think that losing Ellington will hurt as much as losing Clowney against us. Passing has been our weakest link on defense and losing a good receiver will hurt USC.

I want to say that 30% would be nice to think but realistically, Spurrier probably is pissed off about being embarrassed a few years ago in the SEC championship game. I would say that this game will be a toss up at best depending on injuries.

Is that Derrick Henry with a Challenger? WTF? Now we have to watch out for REC giving out something other than custom Chargers?

Tre Mason was a workhorse last year for Auburn, and he gone. What do you have in the backfield that you expect can moderately replace his sterling production?

As for Ellington, he came on like a light bulb last year, and made some amazing catches. This is the third-straight offseason USC is dealing with losing their leading receiver, as Jeffery and Sanders left in consecutive years before him. Each time, a junior has stepped up and assumed that mantle. I expect Shaq Roland to have a fantastic year this season, and to pick up where Ellington left off.

I think Thompson is key in this game. We all know that Auburn and USC will both try and establish a ground game. But the real matchup is Thompson/Spurrier vs Ellis Johnson. EJ's defenses have always been suspect against the pass, and if Thompson is on target, I think he has a great chance to put up big numbers. I think this game is one of the marquee matchups of the upcoming SEC season.

Oh, and USC beats UGA.

Losing Ellington hurts ... but we've got a solid group of wide receivers.

Davis is good, but we're incredibly deep and talented at RB. Everyone will know about David Williams by this game.

It's at your place, that's a huge advantage in your favor IMHO.

SCAR may have the finest OLine in the league this year, we'll see. I dunno, I keep hearing it but I wanna see it to believe it. It's a deep and experienced squad with some serious talent along its ranks.

Back to our receivers for a moment. Thompson can deliver the ball, that's his forte. He's very capable. As far as his targets go, there are Shaq Roland, Damiere Byrd, Nick Jones and Pharaoh Cooper. That's just about as good of a starting four as any in the league. Plus Davis is very good catching the ball out of the backfield. We've got some depth at WR, Spurrier will find one or two hot receivers by that time in the season.

Still, Auburn has owned us. We'll have to see how it goes. We're due, but I expect Auburn to be very good this year.

It's going to come down to who plays the best D in this game IMHO, which is not a reach, just probably more important than most games in this case considering there will be two high-powered offenses on the field and ours is going to have to overcome your homefield crowd noise.

I have attended several games there - it's one of my favorite road trips.

That's an understatement.

We haven't beat Auburn since the...1930s? I know they're the only team we haven't beaten in the SEC since joining.

Auburn returns 8 starters from an offense that averaged 40 points a game last year. We also bring in a 5 star juco wide receiver and a 5 star high school running back. Our offense should be okay

Not really. The entire league has had a full year to study tape on your offense. I'm thinking y'all might get 6 wins if you're lucky.

You really think that they would be more subtle, but I guess that they don't have to be.

And nothing will ever come of it, which is the frustrating part.

Full disclosure, we've not played them that many times since joining the league ...

There have been some close ones that, frankly from a Gamecock fan's perspective, we just gave away. That 2011 game with Ellis Johnson as our DC was like grinding teeth.

We're due, we're just going to have to play well defensively and, if we do, we'll win the game.

Of course, Auburn is going to have something to say about that.

I do like our DLine and Linebackers matching-up against Auburn's run-oriented offense though. I dunno, could be whoever has the most success through the air wins the game. It's just hard to call this early. And we gotta get the Aubie monkey off our backs.

I could have killed Jared Cook in that game. All he had to do was reach for the ball, and TD.

The first 2010 and 2011 games were shite, too.
