I think this happened after Petrino?

I remember hearing about Rose Bowls and Big 10 something or another.
terrible hire in retrospect, nobody new wisconsin just wins 9 games/year no matter who the coach is back then. We all know that now after Bert and Gary Anderson's flame outs.. I wasnt a big fan of the hire, but it was too good on paper to be mad about and I reeeaaallly didnt want Gus so I was ok with it at the time. But, it's totally a fallacy to say Arkansas doesnt try to go big with it's hires. Nutt, was the last bargain bin HC you'll see on the Hill.

So what, in your opinion, has been Bert's issue at Arkansas?

Your opinion, but there are plenty of articles that have LSU consistently ranked as a top 10 job nationally. One by 247Sports a few months ago had LSU ranked ahead of both UGA and Florida.

Well... I agree that LSU can be a wonderful job... but... the best you could get was Coach O the last time around.

Here's the thing sugar plum, LSU should be a steak and blowjob destination job. But it isn't. Because people like you are LSU fans. There is no shortage of great LSU fans... but there is no shortage of, well, you.

When you shite can a guy who averaged like 10 wins a season it might shock you that other coaches out there shy away from coming to such a hospitable environment.

Granted, we don't have much room to talk. I mean as you say your a top ten destination job and we are 5-5 with you over the last decade. Honestly, we aren't proud of that stat, there has been some debate about either going to Div II or Div III, or even dropping football as a sport altogether if we are .500 with LSU in their best decade ever.

I guess that is our burden to bear.

Closest thing to anything Petrino that we'll see at Arkansas is Jeff Brohm. And that probably ain't happening either.

I think he is too much of a ceo and doesnt have something he excells at to hang his hat on. He was a DC, but apparently not a very good one. Bert thought he was good b/c of his early success; now he knows he's NOT an SEC caliber coach. We have enough talent, we just have no identity.

and that's fine b/c there are much better options available, better fits for us , than those two.

Which is exactly why our AD needs to take a long walk off a short pier. CEO being hired at LSU should have never happened, but it did because Joe Alleva got his feelings hurt his number one and two guys didn't work out. Instead of taking his time to get it right, he rushed a bad hire to save face short-term.

Well, you were about to make a good point, but instead of taking that baby in for a landing you circled the airport and diverted somewhere else.

LSU is a destination job, but its biggest hindrance today is not fans. It's (in part) an AD who, as I stated above, needs to take a hike. He won't because things get very complicated when you start looking at the top brass at LSU. Alleva, the President, the Board, and politicians... it's a mess, and everyone seems to have a seat at the table even when they shouldn't.

CEO being hired at LSU is not a cause of LSU's problems...it's a symptom of them, and that has nothing to do with fans.

The answer is yes. I think he would go to Ole Miss first though.

The guy just can't close games. Off the top of my head, I think he's 0-16 when trailing at half and has blown 12 second half leads.

He's trying to run a wear-down offense in a league that's full of future NFL defensive linemen while fielding an average (at best) o-line. So we're the ones that are worn down by the end.

Impressive power since he's only been posting for 2 months.
Thanks, but I wasn't specifically referring to Slack so much as the Arky fanbase in general.

For example:

Officially supported by 81.5% of tFlagship posters

Not everyone was convinced, however

What happened to woopiginaustin? Here's his final post, roughly one month into Bert's first season.

Hasn't even come back to say "I told you so". Is he dead?

ETA: Shout out to TTsTowel

Meh, you mean Arkansas isn't Bama, UGA or UF.

It's on the same level as Tennessee and LSU though and certainly a better job than Louisville.

1st Tier:
Bama
UF
UGA

2nd Tier:
LSU
Tennessee
Arkansas
South Carolina
Texas A&M
Auburn

Worse than Louisville Tier:
Mizzou
Vanderbilt
Mississippi State
Ole Miss
Kentucky

Arkansas is no longer at that level. They're a bottom feeder in the SEC.

Bringing a Big 10 mentality to the SEC.

I have lived in, pretty much, every region of Louisiana over a 20+ year period and I can 100% confirm that some of the issue is, at least in part, some members of the fan base.

were the ATLANTA frickING FALCONS a better gig?

He was 3-9 with the Falcons and had to facilitate messages to players through the assistant coaches because so many players on the team wanted to kick his arse. He would have been fired by the end of the season if he didn't tuck tail and run when Jeff came calling.

Arkansas is arguably the 9th best job in the SEC. Good tradition, great fanbase but nearly impossible to recruit and arguably the worst High School talent in the Southeastern states. Not impossible to win, just difficult. You seriously think a coach would dip out of a top 4 ACC job to clean up Bert's mess?

Yes, the same school that has two national titles and 3 National Championship apperances THIS CENTURY is in the same category as Arkansas, South Carolina, and Texas A&M. OK.
