Florida played with their backs against the wall three times before the final series with LSU.
So yeah, one extra bad day and we would have been done.
Can't name the last Florida team to lose to Bethune-Cookman in the damn tourney...
But, luckily, the draw worked out and the O'Sullivan's balls won the CWS.

Looking back, is it more shocking that last years team won it all or that none of the previous Sully teams did?
Imo, it's shocking that last year was UF's 1st title

Yup. Like you guys have said, the best team doesn't necessarily win it.
Not sure who really was the "best team" last year though. Seemed like the year to do it I suppose in that sense.
Now, previous years when we should have run through the schedule and tourney and fell short, those were disappointing.
I'm not expecting to win it all the season, but if the bats wake up, watch out!

I think getting the monkey off our back of winning the first one will go a long way. Won't have that doubt anymore of not being able to get over the hump.
Now, how aggressive or passive that makes O'Sullivan with his rotations, I guess we will see. He surely likes to mix it up at times when you would think he shouldn't, but it worked last year.
Oh yeah, getting that first one outta the way is huge ... plus you're returning hurlers who have now been there and done that.
I remember well when Sully was at Clemson. Clemson had a helluva staff those years 99-02 they had both Sully and Corbin on the same staff, just unreal.
But Sully was a gambler back them ... I dunno what changed with him or if it did. Corbin was more conservative.
Sully, most of all, got a lot of weight off his back with that title last year. I suspect he'll get really creative this season. He got a taste of a title and no doubt he likes it.

Those Gator squads were textbook examples of how high draft picks can take focus away from the team. Those teams seemed to mail it in after Draft Day 1.

Like look at this.
We lost 0-16 to Arkansas to exit the SEC tourney.
Then we struggled to beat Marist (10-6) and USF (5-1 in 12 innings), then lost to Bethune-Cookman 2-6 before scraping by and winning the regional.
Then we won one and lost one to Wake Forest, again put ourselves against the wall to bounce back and take the Super regional.
Then in the CWS, it felt like we played TCU 5 times, but beat them, beat Louisville, then lost to TCU, and again, back against the wall, pull out that win to get us to the finale with LSU, where we handled them.
I don't think most CWS face elimination that much throughout the tourney.

That SEC tournament was very strange last year. LSU and Arkansas bats just got really hot for those 3 to 4 days.

Maybe we will have another one with LSU and beat you guys again. That would make me happy.
Maybe in ten years you will be able to have a winning record as big as LSU's in Baseball.
You just won your FIRST World Series. LSU has 6.
You have 14 SEC conf Championships. LSU has 17
You have 11 World Series Appearances. LSU has 18
You have 7 Conference Tourney Champs. LSU has 12
But keep working on it little brother. FLA may get there some day.

We’ve had some pretty tight series with Florida in recent memory. With the potential for Kentucky to be really good this season, it’ll be interesting to see if they can knock UF off.

Auburn swept us last season and look what they did afterwards. Tennessee even beat us in a series.
I mostly blame O'Sullivan for messing with the rotations wayyyy too much in that span.
I wouldn't say beating us would make or break your season... but would certainly boost your RPI if you're a tourney team.
Auburn and Tennessee, on the other hand... did nothing after they beat us.

Yes. It won't be easy but we have pitching. I don't expect a title from them, but I wouldn't bet on anyone over us at this point either.

Schwarz needs to start hitting bombs on a consistent basis like he did his Freshman year.
He needs to get that draft stock up, no better way then to do that and be a good catcher as well.

UF may not make to Omaha and perhaps may not get past a regional. Losing Rivera was huge.
Schwartz has gotten lazy since his freshman year. And he's nowhere close to Rivera behind the plate or in clutch at-bats.
Can't emphasize enough how important the catcher is in college baseball and how much of a loss Rivera is.

Oh, you're alive, idlewatcher?
We were suppose to play some golf before the Florida-LSU game this past year, weren't we?

Auburn started running out of arms pretty early in the year. I think we only had 10 pitchers or so to start the year. Plus our bats cooled off considerably.

Florida is our bitch now. Just accept it

It is kind of a miracle that we won it last year, other than the fact that we had zero pressure. It was all on Oregon State. We sucked in the non conference play and then proceeded to get swept by Auburn right out of the chute in SEC play. Even though we got better as the season went on our #2 pitcher (some say the #1 overall pick this year) got absolutely shelled in the SEC tourney by Arkansas. Then we lose to Bethune Cookman in the regionals, and Wake Forest gave us all we could handle in the Supers. We beat TCU in our first game with Faedo, then they come back through the losers bracket and spank us. Then lo and behold TCU has to face Faedo again (poor suckers) and he pitches another gem.
-We had zero hitters over .300
-We had 2 hitters over .280
-Very little power numbers
It was amazing, that none of this mattered. This team was not being denied. Much of that was the leadership of Faedo and Rivera. We will see if we can even scratch the surface this year.
