Typical Ag doesn't even know directions.

I don’t see the confusion. There’s UT and then there’s UTA.

Their official name is the University of Texas at Austin.
While it is University of Texas at Austin, UTA is University of Texas at Arlington.
I call Alabama "Bama" not "UA". I just call Texas, Texas.

UT Tennessee , The University for Texas.

IRL years ago Tennessee and Texas had a lawsuit on this that ultimately ended with us agreeing that we had the right to use UT as well as the interlocking letters logo so long as it was either West or East of the Mississippi depending on the school. Know idea how that agreement will be amended or if they're simply going to tear it up now.
That said, in conference there's no doubt who is UT. Besides, Texas is quicker to write out than Tennessee.

relegated to the kids table.
I believe this was presented as teams without a football National title in the last 2-3 decades. Tennessee has an undisputed unbeaten, untied BCS title in that time span. Ergo the kids table would look like:
Vandy, Arky, TAMU, UGA, Kentucky, Mizzou, Miss St, Ole Miss, UofSC,
Adult table would have Texas, Tennessee, Bama, Auburn, Oklahoma, LSU, Florida

This is our introduction to the SEC. Been following college football since 1991 and never knew Tennessee was referenced as UT as well among their conference.
For our SEC friends, there are five UT schools:
UT-Arlington
UT-Austin
UT-Dallas
UT-El Paso
UT-San Antonio

UT (Tennessee) was founded in 1794. Texas was founded in 1883.
Tennessee has dibs on the UT.
