Again semantics matters not to me (although I wouldn't have a hard time believing Fournette took more....if LSU doesn't get Leonard Les's arse is on the street way sooner).

The NCAA wanted to find something on Cam and Auburn, because it was so high profile. The NCAA was getting the reputation of turning a blind eye on recruiting and corruption in College Football during this period. They turned over every rock they could to find something, but didn't come up with anything. The NCAA could have just closed the case and leave the shadow of doubt about AUs guilt. In turn they choice to praise AUs compliance and their entire program. Those who claim AU got away with anything just have sour grapes.

What situation?

See above.

Again they couldn't find proof which is a combination of NCAA ineptness and good work by AU.

Hell you should be proud of it.

I've often said that this went to REC levels here for AU....good on you guys.

I ain't mad at ya. I'm just saying that denying it makes you seem at best naive and at worst idiotic.

I think it's good work by AU that in a year of investigation the NCAA didn't find any other solid threads to pull on (including any more traditional booster benefits to Cam and others).

I don't think it's particularly any achievement by AU that nothing was found on the original Cam claims, as the far more likely scenario is that Auburn wasn't asked and didn't pay for Cam after his father got his hand slapped at MSU. I think there are two big disconnects in the Cam story, first being that Cam wasn't a 180k recruit at the time, and the second being that Auburn wasn't going to knowingly win a bidding war with another SEC school where the father of the recruit openly sought money from the other SEC school.

People ignore that Cecil and Cam were tainted goods at that point, Cecil didn't really have the leverage to pull off that approach after MSU.

"I'm just throwing out stuff that I can't support in any manner and calling people who disagree stupid."

We're biased, but some of us lived and breathed this story and have had the chance to get pretty candid answers in the years since. We're not being homers, which is why most of us will say we have no clue if Cam got improper benefits during his time at Auburn, while simultaneously saying that there is almost no chance Auburn, booster or otherwise, paid any significant sum to sign Cam Newton.

OK to think that 100K+ has ever been paid for a recruit IMO is insane....so yea.

Now I also think it is insane to think that Cam decided "Oh hell yes I'll go to AU for free just because of Trooper Taylor's towel.".....His dad said that it was going to take money to get him (which to me like I said before basically seems like he wants bids)....why would that change just because it turned out to be AU and not MSU?

Now if you want to go down the road of the official story that his dad basically went rogue you can do that...I just don't believe it...never have never will.

Again....I don't care about semantics....and like I said it is stupid to think that any recruit ever has garnered 100K+....that number in my mind was a fantasy.

Even though I'm still bitter about Cam, I don't blame that situation on AU cheating. Did he get some kind of payola? Probably
But the Cam who committed to MSU for 24 hours and then switched to AU wasn't the NC, Heisman winning Cam that we all saw later. He was a juco QB with a shady past looking to play ball in the SEC again, not some high dollar demanding 5* prima

He went to Auburn for free because 1) Auburn was one of only 2 major schools recruiting him in a serious way and 2) the pay for play ploy had just blown up in their face at MSU.

It's just really stupid to ignore these two points.
