That tells you who has the most money available...now the question is...who is most willing to part with it for their school's athletics program?

I don’t think any of the Ivy’s would
They already don’t compete in the FCS playoff
And for hoops, there’s still a lot of academic holes
Sure you don’t have to be regular student smart, but I don’t see Harvard Alums throwing cash at a bunch of one and done players with 1050 SAT scores

True...but in basketball, for example, how much difference can one player make?
This isn't going to be about all of the players making money on their names...it is going to be about schools bidding for the very top players (like they pretty much are already doing under the table) in a way that is completely above board.

UNLV will become an absolute powerhouse.

The major programs, with the most $ among the alumni, in the largest markets will win this sweepstakes...and it'll be the end of college sports as we know it. Mass consolidation at those schools, at the most popular sports, and at the most rewarding positions. Why would you play safety when you could play WR or RB and get PAID.
Give it 10 years and USC will be absolutely on top of the world of college athletics in every sport that matters. Guess what, Kentucky...nobody gives a crap about tradition and championships anymore...it's all about the money and sorry, Lexington, KY isn't competing with major markets.
But on a national level Kentucky basketball is still the better brand
USC I’ll give ya, they’re already an established program
But a market like NYC? Rutgers who is the closest school isn’t even a blip on the radar in fan support
You’ll probably see ads for Joe Smith Kentucky’s newest 5 star PG over the Nike store in midtown Manhattan

Any player with a 3- star rating will get guaranteed payouts. The amounts go up from there.
McLane at Baylor could easily put $300m in a fund to make these distributions forever.
The Walton's are worth >$100billion. You think one of them wouldn't throw $250 million into a fund to buy some players forever? They built the Mizzou and Arkansas arenas.
Steve Balmer and Larry Page went to Stanford? IMO Stanford will be the dominant force in 10 years.

Won't happen overnight...but those 5*'s that automatically went to Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky in the past will start leaking away to the money when they see how their peers are being treated in LA and Chicago and NYC..and with them, the wins, and with the wins, the integrity of the brand...then it's a self-perpetuating downward spiral. Like I said, give it 10 years. This is a HORRIBLE idea...and liberals, God love em, OF COURSE they'd come up with this nonsense and then fail to examine the likely unintended consequences.

Nike is going to laugh at all your local "rich" boosters.
The corporate takeover of Las Vegas is the perfect example.
The rich will get richer & by large margin. Texas has positioned itself for the inevitable, in addition to Nike & ESPN partnerships, IMG College handles the sports marketing & media mgmt for the school.
It's gradually been happening right in front of our eyes.

This isn't just about boosters. You have a little mind.

I just think those programs would have ads/marketing campaigns etc in those cities too
For one NYC has a very large Duke Alumni base
It may actually be the #1 region/metro area among their alumni
Along without DC Boston and LA who are high on their list
Even after 10 years (if this passes everywhere) since we’ll have the shoe companies get involved I think the already bigger programs with many titles and following around the country will just get richer
That said (just using college sports in NYC) they’ll also have to compete with NYCs already established professional sports programs

Yup.
Look @ the current list of highest revenue Ath Dept's & more specifically the tier 3 revenue... there is your top list of candidates to gain from the evolution to max corporate sponsorship revenue.

This is what I’m saying.
Just because Texas is in Austin won’t mean Nike is going to give Rutgers more cash because it’s in the NYC market.
Nike will throw money at Texas because they are one of the if not largest brand in the country
And their 5 Star QBs jersey will sell all over

It's going to drive the elite recruits & transfers to the "Big Boys". Being the face of Bama, Michigan, USC & Texas' program would pay out 2-3x's more than it would be @ Auburn, Michigan St, Cal & Texas A&M.
Good news is that we would see a lot less early entries into the NFL.

Schools with the most loyal fan bases will fare best. UGA should do well if this horrible idea becomes reality. UGA has recently made and is making major improvements to facilities - many many millions of $’s worth- and I read that it was totally funded by donors. No debt!
Don’t like this crazy idea one bit but UGA should be fine if it happens.

Vandys alumni are wealthy folks. But they have never felt the urge to contribute to athletics. I don’t see that changing
Posted on 10/2/19 at 2:35 pm to I Bleed Garnet
It could also change the landscape of athletics department. Hardly anybody goes to the UCF games but if they keep winning the alumni base is enormous. You can build brand loyalty by making a team good in large markets. There are a whole lot of Georgia State graduates. If someone decides they want start dumping money into the program then they can do that and build the brand up. Move their games to Mercedes benz stadium and make them a powerhouse. Sure it will take a while but the money is there simply because of a large Alumni base. You just have to make the team good and get them interested.
