We're currently doing the exact same thing for the upcoming 2025 season. Don't be stupid.

Was interesting to see standout players on both sides of the ball were standouts for completely different teams last year. They don’t win without those guys.

I’m not a fan of it. My team should benefit from it next year but it’s a mercenary game in every sense of the word.

As far as Caleb Downs. His father is freinds with OSU db coach Tim Walton growing up in Georgia. He almost went to OSU out of high school. When Saban left it was a foregone conclusion that he was going to Ohio State. He even took a little less money than Georgia offered.

I do agree he is a difference maker. Bama might have been 1 or 2 games better with him. I heard Bama fans criticize their DC for playing a 4-2-5. Fact is that is what Ohio State plays and is the best defense in America because of their safety play. The defense is not flawed..the execution needs to be there to be as great as OSU

Saban bought about 6 of them at Alabama.

It’s pretty sad that the two teams in the championship both ponied up a lot of money to purchase star starters off of other teams.

That is patently an untruth.

Yep, just like it always has been... for SOME teams.

All the SEC contenders, but if you seriously think that players getting $100 handshakes (or even a few players getting a car) is the same as openly spending 15 to 20 million to buy a team, you are naive at best.

Of Ohio States starting 24…the only portal player is Downs.annd Howard. Other portal players like McLaughlin and Simmons are hurt and Judkins is basically 2nd string to Trey Henderson. If Judkins wasn’t here..Henderson would get more touches and that is certainly no drop off. Fact of the matter is with only one starter from the portal..Ohio State May have the least portal starters of any Power 4 team in the country.

During the ncaa investigation one player was asked if he received monetary offers from Alabama. He replied no but was offered by Tennessee. I'm sure some posters here will remember the guy's name.

Downs is the only player I hated to see leave last year. I got it though, he came because of Saban, left because of Saban.

If you had the money to burn you would try it at least a couple times.

Most, probably all of us, lack the bankroll. So instead, we get to sit here and bitch about it.

You sawed-off midget, Bammer is the one having financial problems.

Bammer is a real poor.

quote:

The University of Alabama (UA) has faced several financial issues, including student debt, recruiting students, and the cost of tuition:

Student debt: UA has the highest student debt of any state institution, and even higher than some of the state's private colleges. In 2020, the average student loan debt for a UA borrower was $34,975.

Recruiting: UA has recruited students from outside the state to increase the number of applicants and to generate more revenue from tuition. Out-of-state students typically pay up to three times more in tuition than in-state students.

Tuition: The cost of tuition has been a factor in UA's financial issues.

LOL. If you think LSU can afford to pay what Ohio State and Texas have paid, you are as naive as the other poster.

Have you noticed that the most active portal teams are those that have struggled on the field?

The transfer portal isn't the only indication of pay for play. It's not even the primary indication. That would be high school recruiting.

Ummm have you seen what LSU has done in the portal lately? And yes, that’s obviously what you need to do to make the championship game so I think we’re doing what we need to be doing. Playing the game the way it is now.

Don't get too lazy with your big portal potty beliefs. The best teams build from within and pay their guys accordingly, and the Buckeyes still fit that narrative. Like all Bluebloods, they get destroyed when key players leave for greener pastures.

Ohio State signed these players in the portal last year:

QB Will Howard, from Kansas State
QB Julian Sayin, from Alabama
RB Quinshon Judkins, from Mississippi
TE Will Kacmarek, from Ohio
C Seth McLaughlin, from Alabama
S Caleb Downs, from Alabama

I count 6 new guys

The Buckeyes lost these players in the portal last year:

QB Kyle McCord, to Syracuse
RB Evan Pryor, to Cincinnati
RB Dallan Hayden, to Colorado
RB Chip Trayanum, to Kentucky
WR Noah Rogers, to North Carolina State
WR Julian Fleming, to Penn State
TE Joe Royer, to Cincinnati
TE Sam Hart, to Colorado
DB Cameron Martinez, to Boston College
OL Vic Cutler, to Louisville
OL Jakob James, to Toledo
DT Jaden McKenzie, to East Carolina
DE Omari Abor, to SMU
CB Jyaire Brown, to LSU
DB Kye Stokes, to Cincinnati
S Ja'Had Carter, to North Carolina State
LB Reid Carrico, to West Virginia
DB Ryan Turner, to Boston College
LB Nigel Glover, to Northwestern
WR Kiyon Graves, to California
S Cedrick Hawkins, to Central Florida
K Parker Lewis, Arizona State
P Jesse Mirco, to Vanderbilt
RB Will Hartson, to Southern Illinois

So where did all that 20 million actually go? They are paying their homegrowns just like BAMA and others who recruit on a different level.
