It is the third best rivalry game, in the conference, at best.

I can go with that as things stand currently. Bama/AU > UGA/UF > Bama/UT > UGA/AU > OM/MSU > UF/UT

But historically imo it's Bama/AU > Bama/UT > UGA/AU > UGA/UF > OM/MSU > UF/UT

UF-UT was THE premiere rivalry for more than a decade - that game determined the SEC Champ AND more than once the national champ. However, it's not a historical rivalry and thus far has never been able to recover from the loss of Fulmer vs. Spurrier even tho momentum carried it for a while - it's now running on fumes. If it's to survive UF-UT are most certainly gonna have to figure out a way to re-spark it and it goes beyond just stepping up on the field given it was so personality driven to start with. I was hoping Boom vs. Butch would rekindle it but I'm not sure Boom will survive next season.

Yeah, the UT/UF game was probably the most significant series that was played during the mid-90s to the early 2000s.

I honestly wish it would come back - not because it was all about the competition either. The drama leading up to those games made it fun. It was truly a show.

UF/UT was in the 90s what Bama/LSU is now. I never considered it a rivalry game tbh, but it was always a significant game in the SEC and nationally.

^LSU was unable to maintain that standing. Very short lived - only a few times did it ever reach UT-UF's level in the 90s-00s.

I don't like this whole calling yourself "VOLS" shite. You've all been doing it lately and it fricking sucks.

Yeah, it may be the accepted way for networks to represent Tennessee in less than six letters on score tickers and onscreen scoreboards, but it sure as frick doesn't mean you have to own it.

It's dumb, and you should be lobbying for the networks to change it, not adopt it.

VOLS vs Bama.

It's not new. It's actually very old as you can see from the old designs:

And:

Both were dumped a long time ago but they're showing up again on retro gear. Still for many using VOLS it's due to it being OLD OLD OLD.

As for networks I've never once seen them show anything other than TENN and Tennessee (Tennessee is the most common these days).

One other thing, I prefer UT but damn talk about a dumb thing to complain about. And not a soul is lobbying for the networks to change things

Yeah, but it seems bigger now. Like the school got pissed of being UT and getting fricked up with Texas and just decided to roll with the VOLS thing.

Tenn could work, TN could work. Why VOLS?' It seems like some bullshite school code in an NCAA Football game.

"Your next game against VOLS is ready to play." Bleh.

We don't even think about TU You in the SEC bro. The fans using the old school stuff have been raised on it and they're actually in the minority. When VOLS is used by the majority it's simply: Vols. We are the Vols and always will be. It's not like anyone is ever gonna get confused by it - sorta like using Wolverines folks know that = Michigan. Do you not call yourselves Tigers? Every school except BAMA refers to themselves frequently by their mascot. And the only reason BAMA/Bama doesn't is it takes to long to type the Crimson Tide.

Yeah, I get the Vols thing. It just seems like VOLS has taken on a SCAR type thing lately and it's bothersome.

It's just late and I need shite to talk about, really.

Fair enough. Things are kinda dull right now.

ETA: What you're noticing is likely Volfan30 - he uses it often and posts a lot. Others not so much.

Well maybe Tennessee should form its own league with Alabama. Just the two of them. They can play 12 times per year.

And border states. Lots of mixing of fans up here near the state lines.
I think that is one thing in rivalries that gets lost in shuffle now-a-days.

In fact, I can think of only one [traditional, historical] rivalry game nationwide that doesn't include that fact- ND and USCw.
