My degree (ME) still holds its own in prestige and rankings reasonably well, but the school as a whole has taken big steps backward.
That may be true, but whatever experience you may or may not have matters way more than some degree in the Engineering world from what I’ve seen. No one truly cares about the school except to talk shite with coworkers during sports season.

USNRW is still widely viewed with skepticism by Professors and Deans.
University rankings are by nature a bit silly. Do we really need a 3rd party to tell us that MIT is academically superior to Texas Tech? Does anyone really care how WashU compares to Rice? The WSJ rankings had Babson ahead of Princeton, Harvard & MIT. Obviously, a flawed methodology.
However, if any rankings matter at all, it is the USNWR rankings. Why? Because that is the only ranking the university leadership cares about.
When other rankings come out, schools might have a link to those rankings, but that is it. Here are some examples of schools caring more about the USNWR rankings:
Columbia rigged their #s to look better for USNWR rankings; LINK
Northeastern changed its entire model to game the USNWR rankings: LINK
When Vandy dropped in the rankings, their Chancellor wrote an open letter addressing this issue: LINK
Both UF and UCLA created banners & signs to post around campus when they made the USNWR top 5 public universitiy list. There are many other examples I don't have time to look up. USNWR is the only ranking that moves the needle.
