This is wishful thinking on the part of the writer. If Louisville thinks they can get him, Louisville will go after him. Simple as that.
If Auburn loses Pearl, it won't be because of salary. Auburn will back up the Brinks truck to keep him. But Pearl may well want to be the number one guy on campus, at a traditional basketball power school where hoops rules the roost. Louisville is such a school, and is a real threat to nab him. Don't deceive yourselves on that count.

I do not think they will make an offer. They will want Bruce to extend a demand sheet, because they will want the country to believe they never offered. There are people at places like UL who still think they are above a coach like Bruce. They don't want to explain to their UK buddies how they got turned down.

Tim Sullivan is far from the end all/be all on Louisville. It’s also why it’s labeled an opinion piece by the C-J.
Ironically, it’s an Auburn guy claiming that UofL has contacted Pearl.

As much as everyone wants to stir up drama and talk about rumors - Bruce and Louisville cannot match up right now.
Bruce has spent 5 years in NCAA purgatory and 9 years with some form of scholarship reductions and a second NCAA investigation.
He has finally emerged and has his team on top with his best years ahead of him.
He cannot be hired by a school that is under ncaa investigation where it could all start over again.
Stop trying to act like you believe this could happen when we all know it won’t.
