Use your brain. Right now, Tennessee is about to get hit with major NCAA sanctions. The athletic department is a shite show and has been for a while. If O'Brien gets there, gets hit with major sanctions, and is unable to win...it's going to be very difficult for him to recover career-wise - especially after what happened with him and the Texans.

Why go to Tennessee and risk all that when you can be the OC of a Saban-coached program and have your pick of jobs one or two years from now?

Nor should there be a coaching hire till an AD is hired.

David Blackburn will always be on the list.

When O'Brien took the Penn State job in the aftermath of the Sandusky scandal, he was an up-and-coming coordinator who had very little clout.

Not really.

Bill O'Brien is an NFL guy by all accounts. I don't think he wants to do the college thing anymore.

Don't be an idiot. Several people would turn down the Tennessee job just because of the shitshow it is and looming probation.

Besides...didn't a certain DC recently turn down the Auburn HC job to remain a DC at Alabama? Or were you only 12 years old at that time?

Hell, Sark just left to take a HC job at a school that is ALMOST as big of a shitshow as TN.

Again, don't be an idiot.

I think this is the most reasonable take on O'Brien.

I guess you have to ask yourself if the Saban rehab will get you back in the NFL?

Or would being a head coach in the SEC get you back in the NFL?

Yes, really. Two years before he took the Penn State job he was the QB coach of the New England Patriots. The only other coordinating experience he had was with Duke in 2005/2006.

The Jacksonville Jaguars wanted to interview him for their head coaching position but he decided to go to Penn State.

The following year, both the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns were very interested in him yet he again decided to stay with Penn State.

To say he had "very little clout," is somewhat downplaying how hot of a name he was at the time.

Dude definitely had other options besides Penn State.

The writers at BOL 247 said that Bill O'Brien is already recruiting for Alabama and is the reason Marrone is being reached out to by Alabama to be the OL coach.

That's pretty consistent as Kiffin was already on the recruiting trail before he was announced as the OC. There were pictures of him in Bama gear in high schools before Bama announced him as being on staff.

Level I recruiting violations. That’s all we know.

He took a job at a school that was a hair away from the death penalty. If he wasn't afraid of the PSU sanctions, then the TN sanctions won't scare him a bit. Now, if you want to discuss whether or not he thinks he can win at TN, that's a whole other discussion.

I don't think it's that. I think Bill O'Brien is interested in becoming an NFL head coach again. I think he believes one good year at Alabama, maybe two, and he will be back in play there.

You can tell from Saban's quotes that O'Brien is going to be hired. Just a matter of when it's announced. They'll probably wait and do an announcement of two or three guys at one time.

In fact I have spoke to multiple sources this morning who believe he (Marrone) will be targeted by Saban and Bill O'Brien (who hasn't been officially announced but he's on the job).

Are you high? Do you think an athletic department shuts down till they replace it's director? Ever heard the term "interm"? Whoever is the assistant AD there, is probably the acting AD until they hire a new one.
