So help me, I have missed the soap opera of a Tennessee coaching search.

I'm sure they are as Saban is also interested in him.

I could be way off base here, but I just don't see Tennessee making a splash hire this go-around due to the fact that they are currently under NCAA investigation for major recruiting violations. Violations, I might add, that Tennessee has all but admitted to committing. Due to the nature of the violations, Tennessee will likely be banned from post-season play for one or two seasons, they'll see significant scholarship reductions, and the incoming staff will have their ability to take recruiting visits heavily throttled.

Maybe Bill O'Brien will simply shrug his shoulders and walk into a situation like that. Then again, maybe he won't. My money is on him taking a coordinator position whereupon he will rehab his image before taking another NFL job here in the next couple of seasons.

Maybe O’Brien is doing a hold my beer moment ?

It can’t be as bad as Penn State, right?

Seriously though, the power brokers reaching out and the Bama angle seem to be the obvious answer.

O'Brien left Penn State as soon as he could for greener pastures and, aside from his two-year stint in Happy Valley, has spent the last decade and a half in the ranks of the NFL. He likely wants to get back there.

Obviously

That’s why soap operas are fun.

Argue Lane?

He and the staff he brought in were top notch.

Showing my age, but Majors was probably more of a Godsend.

He's not a bad option. Look at what he did at PSU after the wheels came off.

That was before he was a head coach in the NFL for six years.

He took a job at a school that was a hair away from the death penalty. If he wasn't afraid of the PSU sanctions, then the TN sanctions won't scare him a bit. Now, if you want to discuss whether or not he thinks he can win at TN, that's a whole other discussion.

Once again, the Bill O'Brien of 2012 is not the same person nine years later. When O'Brien took the Penn State job in the aftermath of the Sandusky scandal, he was an up-and-coming coordinator who had very little clout. That isn't true of him anymore. Leaving the OC position at Alabama to be the head coach at Tennessee would be a downgrade for him at this point in time.

LOL! Only a Bama fan would consider a coordinator job better than an SEC HC job. You are insane, and need to take off those crimson-colored glasses if you think ANYONE is going to turn down the TN HC job, in ordr to take a coordinator job.

Hell, Sark just left to take a HC job at a school that is ALMOST as big of a shitshow as TN. The big difference is, Texas expects to win, TN not so much.

They can't and won't hire a coach until they hire an AD. Are athletic administrators lining up to take that job?
