You are correct. He's Mark Richt with ND talent. Hell Ed O, and Les Miles were litterally dummer than any other coaches in the history of the program yet still managed to each win National titles...
Ed left the program in what most would call death penalty scenario. Yet in his first year BK was able to defeat Nick... I'd say lets see this play out, and my guess is that your rediculous comparion will shite the bed...
The thing people forget with a comparison like this is it's really not a negative comment.
Mark Richt won the SEC multiple times and had 7-8 top 10 teams and 3 top 5 teams.
There are MAYBE 10 active coaches as good as Mark Richt... probably less.
What Mark Richt ends up being is pretty much the best possible coach you can get without being an elite coach. I get you want your guy to be elite, but very few coaches are. If you're not elite, being at Mark Richt level is a high mark.

Gimme a break. BK doesn't have any "winless" seasons. Just stop.

I'm only using LSU logic, they've said for years on here that we didn't win the SEC in football until 1991.

No it's not. I placed enough context in the OP to make sure it didn't come off as a troll. It still didn't keep the kindergarten mentality at bay.

No. You're just being childish.

Looks like someone is being a child. Either on the field counts for everyone or it counts for no one. Stop crying when you get called out for your hypocrisy.

As an LSU fan I can say this isn't a Brian Kelly thing. Seems like LSU has always played up or down based on their competition.

Tenn had a better team than LSU and fumbling the opening kickoff didn't help matters
LSU's best offensive tackle also missed that game
Special teams were a disaster and also cost them Fla St game
As far as Ark, everyone knew it was a let down game coming off Bama and the frigid temps with snow covering the field that morning didn't help matters but LSU survived which is all they had to do.
By end of year LSU was running on fumes with key injuries and the fumble returned for a TD was pretty much the difference in the A&M game and they weren't beating UGA in title game with the same injuries.
From what Kelly inherited from the previous regime and starting two fr tackles all year they accounted for themselves quite well.

Have you ever entered a post where your goal was not to be the most petulant, argumentative person in the thread?

The maddening thing about Richt was his teams ability to play up or down to the level of competition which would invariably cost us a game or two every year. At other times his teams could come out flat and completely bomb a game they never should have lost. It was maddening to be a fan. You just never knew which team was gonna show up: the manic or the depressive.
That's what I saw last year with BK and the LSU Tigers. They absolutely bombed the Tennessee game, survived the Arkansas game, BEAT Bama only to get steamrolled by Texas A&M. It was a prototypical Mark Richt season.
I realize this opinion is solely based on Kelly's first year in the SEC and that could very well explain a lot, if not all of this. I'm looking forward to watching LSU play this year and determining whether this is a one off or something that will become a defining characteristic. I guess time will tell.
Their recruiting is similar, not elite but on the doorstep. I think he's a better coach. He rarely was upset at Notre Dame, which bit Richt quite a few times in his later years. Just couldn't ever get the big upset at Notre Dame.
Say what you will about Brian Kelly, but he's one of the few that didn't get any help starting out. He's where he's at because he can coach. Didn't get a great launching pad.

I have thought the same thing about Kelly. Most of the SEC and a good many UGA fans would like to take a dump on Richt but dude was instrumental in making UGA what it is today. He had some really good football teams and always seemed one or two key players away from getting over the hump. He definitely, in my opinion, played a key role in getting UGA football to where it is today. Kelly did some incredible work at Notre Dame in an era where the Notre Dame model is probably a relic of the past in CFB...time will tell...but the outlook is bright in red stick in my opinion. I hate it but they are in a good position. They are probably still a couple of seasons away from competing for a natty but discounting them anytime is a fools errand...the bastards. Why didn't they keep coach O??? Everybody loved coach O....

I kind of get those vibes from Josh Heupel.
Heupel has some proving to do for me. I think SEC defenses will adjust to his style and make things hard on UT as far as winning SEC titles goes...winning 9 and 10 games a year, much like Richt, is not out of the question but like Richt Heupel will most likely be a key player or 2 from being really good. Time will tell...he has definitely turned the Vols in the right direction, the bastard!

It being Kelly’s first year in the SEC explains less than the lack of depth on our team. People forget the deficit on our roster that still somewhat exists. What he did with that roster was pretty damn fantastic.
It was pretty close to miraculous. Kelly was seriously hamstrung at ND...he doesn't have those limitations at LSU.

LSU was sporadic last year, but considering the team was expected to win around 6 games last season, pointing out losses on the way to a 10 win, SEC West winning season is moving the goal post.
They absolutely need to play more consistently, but Kelly has stated they need to build the depth and change the culture. That doesn't happen in 1 season. Didn't for UGA when Kirby took over and certainly didn't for Bama with Saban.
