I think that is certainly possible but I think the max they are going for is 20 (just my guess). You can cut

Louisville
Duke
Wake
Tech
NC State

Pitt
Syracuse
Boise
BC
Va Tech

Not shocking after the PAC 12 showed just how little they cared about football when they tried to cancel the season in 2020.

That wasn't the choice of most of the conference members -- this was the choice of Commissioner Larry Scott and his office primarily. He has destroyed the Pac-12.

If the ACC is done, should these teams just move down to G5 then? The Big 12 is already going to be full from PAC12 refugees. I’m also certain that the Tobacco Road (Wake, Duke, UNC, and NC St.) will stick together regardless. If one of them moves, they all do.

Have you been there for a football game? I have and its junior varsity level shite. Very similar to playing in the SEC East division.

Would be a good move to stabilize the Big 12

I thought Oregon and Washington's academics were too poor for the Big10.

Washington is actually a research powerhouse and regularly ranked among the Top 30 universities in the world. For instance, it's ranked #29 by Times Higher Education and #19 by the Academic Ranking of World Universities. If you want an accurate perception of how universities are perceived by their peers, don't look at the US News rankings; they're considered a joke.

Washington also ticks the AAU membership box and has a healthy $4.7 billion endowment.

Oregon is not nearly as world-class from an academic perspective, but it is an AAU member and is similar to Rutgers and Penn State in terms of research productivity.

I'm still curious about what Stanford will do. They may decide to go independent since their endowment allows them to do essentially whatever they want.

Depends on how strong that GOR is that lasts until 2036. It seems steel-trap strong. If that’s the case, then the ACC even has mighty Notre Dame wrapped up in their tight cocoon.

According to their contract with the league, if ND joins a conference it must be the ACC. No exceptions. Also, all of ND’s other sports are as tightly bound to the ACC as any other conference school.

If the GOR is actually this unbreakable then it could pose a huge problem for the SEC. To date the Big Ten has been trying to keep up with the SEC.

If they pluck Oregon, Washington, Stanford and maybe Utah or Colorado from the corpse of the PAC 12, and the SEC can’t get Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech from the ACC, then suddenly they’re the chased, not the chasers.

The Colorado fans in Denver were some of the worst fans I've ever encountered

Do you think the ACC survives this?

Yes, it will reload. But it’s going to be a third tier conference. They’re facing the likelihood of losing ND and potentially UNC. If the SEC reacts, throw FSU, Clemson, VT, and a Carolina school in that mix. So they’d be down 2-6 members depending how this shakes out. They would still have a solid core and some decent programs. They could add UConn, South Florida, and take a run at some of the eastern Big 12 teams... hey, maybe they could convince Kansas to join given the strong hoops programs.

Those 4 bring nothing to the table. If they were desirable then the Pac would not be dissolving in the first place.

Now that I’m 20 minutes from Boulder, I’d like them to be in a competitive conference.

Why do people keep talking about the ACC? It’s not going anywhere, if anything they will add more. They have a long tv deal and a 25 million buyout. The topic is going to be what remains of the PAC members who aren’t invited into the big 12.

Athletically the Big Ten is a joke, even with the new adds. The Big Ten is where athletic programs go to die

Just 25 million? That's peanuts if the annual share in the Big 10 and SEC will be over 100.

It is actually easier to imagine what teams the Big 10 might consider than the SEC going forward. Right now they have:

Indiana,
Maryland,
Michigan,
Michigan State,
Ohio State,
Penn State,
Rutgers,
Illinois,
Iowa,
Minnesota,
Nebraska,
Northwestern,
Purdue,
Wisconsin

USC
UCLA

If they expand past 16 these seem like the obvious high value targets:

Notre Dame
North Carolina
Virginia
Oregon
Washington

If they get four of those that's 20. If they want 24 then they might consider:

Duke
Miami
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Arizona State
Colorado
Utah

But I don't think that last group makes as much sense in terms of culture or value. There's plenty to lose with over expansion. Think about the Big East basketball experiment.

ETA Arizona State to the last group. ASU is an enormous school, Phoenix is growing, and they make more sense than a Utah or Colorado on the balance

These conferences have to change their name at some point. You can’t be the Big 10 with 20 members
