When Ensminger was playing QB, leather helmets were the latest thing. Like he could carry on this offense if Brady left. Y’all better chain Brady in the press box of Tiger Stadium.

what exactly does he do?

Brady is the architect, Ensminger is the old QB with some play calling common sense. Ensminger learned a new system from Brady. Brady is learning play calling from Ensminger. Pretty good duo, if you ask me. A true odd couple but they compliment each other perfectly.
Obviously, the plan is to groom Brady for the OC job and Ensminger will ride off into the sunset.

Ensminger is a good play caller. You could see it in 2016 -- he ran Cam Cameron's offense only better. Mixed it up more. Ran when you expected pass and passed when you expected run. That type of thing. The old QB still has some good play calling instincts.
What he is not good at is designing an entirely new offense ... needed Brady to come in and install it.

Brady is already calling 80% of the plays. All the other reports are smokescreen from Oregon and everyone else.

Brady suggests a play. That play is called, rinse and repeat. O, E & I have similar input on the offense. Nice of us old guys to get out of Brady's way, since none of us would know what he's talking about. I wonder if E & O even have functioning headsets? I could see Brady & Aranda having them turned off for the olds.

except Ed Orgeron disagrees with you
It's pretty obvious that Orgeron is just protecting his friend. Every time someone mentions Brady to him he goes out of his way to bring up Ensmingers name. It's obvious he feels bad for him and is proud of him for putting his ego aside and letting Brady take over the offense.
If you still don't think it's Brady just know this.
Offense was ranked somewhere in the 70s last year, 80s or 90s if you take out the extra game they played at the end of the A&M game. Quarterback is the same. Offensive line is the same. Wide receivers are the same. Coaching staff is the same.
The only change?
Joe Brady.
Offense is now in the top 3 and setting all kinds of records. I'm sorry but you're not going to convince anybody that that's because of a 60 year old TEs coach it hasn't been a coordinator since Bill Clinton was President and produced the two worse games against Alabama in the history of LSU football.

This.
They like what they see and externally they're trying to tamp down excitement for him by diminishing his role. Internally, they know what they have and they're probably attaboy'ing him at every chance they get to make him happy and keep him in the building. Woodward is the AD now not dicknose Joe so I'm sure they've already ran a contract past him.
Other people were right in saying that Ensminger was grooming Brady on play calling because Brady's never been a coordinator. I think the plan all along was that Brady was promised the offensive coordinator job when Ensminger retires as part of his initial hiring. Why else would he have left the Saints for basically the same job? It was for opportunity that he was never going to get at the Saints. How long has Pete Carmichael been in Sean Paytons shadow?

Hey Gump’s, we know you are worried. Your dominance of the west is over. We know it and you know it. You also know Saban will not be there much longer. Then your team will slip back to it reliving the glory days because that’s all you have. Not being able to find the next saban will lead to years of coaches being run off just like before. You remember those days don’t you? What Coach in his right mind would want to try to coach their after Saban. Not Dabo I can assure you.
So here we sit with Gump’s doing what they do best. Trying to frick with opponents programs.

Brady brought in the basic concepts of this passing scheme, but I think Brady and Ensminger together customized the scheme to fit Joe Burrow's strengths. It's clear that the two of them like each other and work extremely well together. Brady had never called plays before, and at the beginning of the year, it was clear that Ensminger was calling the plays with suggestions from Brady. As the year progressed, Ensminger let Brady call more and more of the plays. In the short term, it doesn't really matter which of them does what, because both of them will be back at LSU next year.
I expect them to be co-coordinators next year, with Brady making between $1.5 and $1.8 million, with Brady becoming the full OC the year after than and Ensminger semi-retiring to an analyst role.
