Unless you're in the final 4 , teams have no clue what their roster will be. In the next week hundreds of players will be in portal. Coaches will be leaving. I mean ALA will be missing their top players. Can't blame them.

If you know anything about college football you’d know the concept of bowls “mattering” only started in the the late 1960s. Before that the Bowls were viewed as little more than exhibition games. And even in the period between the national championship being voted on after the bowls and the advent of the BCS and later Play-off system, only a small handful of bowl in any given year had any meaning.

So stop with the “bowl games are meaningless”. For all intents and purposes for most of their history almost all bowl games have been, as you say, “meaningless”. Instead of lamenting over this fact, Just be thankful for the opportunity to watch them and enjoy them for what they are.

Bowl games almost shouldn’t even be included in your season record

Saban told everyone this years ago

Absolutely. Every post should be about Saban or Alabama.

Nope. Exhibition games at best.

But they’ve always been that way, really

Yup - that's why, for many years, a champion was named prior to the bowls. They were basically exhibition games/vacations for the players.
Wasn't until the late 60s that the AP named the champ after them; took the coaches a bit longer before they did the same.
Then the Bowl Coalition / Alliance / BCS took all the potential out of the wacky bowl hijinks to see anyone below #2 manage to win it all. Gone were the days where #5 could jump to #1 during bowl season.

The playoffs helped a little, but still the same result (and no, I don't recommend expanding the playoffs either).

Do not forget the payouts.

Yep. A years supply of Dukes Mayonnaise is worth risking an ACL tear.

You don't need a bowl for extra practice time. Just call up some players from a different program and play at a rink a dink high school stadium

You do realize teams can not do this. In fact, they cant do anything even approaching this.

So I stand by my statement.

So you're not going to watch the Vols play in their bowl game?

:idontbelieveyou:

It's the fans that demand the games. Therefore, the demand is met with supply. These games generate revenue, and satisfy market demand. They matter inasmuch as any entertainment can "matter".

I think people lose sight of the fact that it's all just created for entertainment, and that the fans matter more than the players or coaches. If we want it, we'll get it - for a price.
