That's not the same scenario, and you should be smart enough to know that, but maybe not

At Bama the Athl Dept grosses $148 Million per year, 95% or more is generated by the 85 FB players, the 13 MBB Players under the direction of their Coaching staffs

98 guys plus coaches generate $140 million plus dollars each yr at Bama

Also you didn't READ their demands, they never asked for 50% of ALL REVENUES, they asked for 50% of the money from the Conference Office which is essentially the TV-Radio money, the tickets, concessions, merch, etc is not affected by their demands

Washington State only makes half of that so do you propose effectively pricing smaller schools out of the equation by paying players?

So you're saying its just like any other business where the frontline labor makes big bucks for the suits at the main office?

Lol... in the days of segregation when money was still driving the sport, was it white people being exploited?

Yes, at echelon, sports management/administrators make money off of their players. It is a fact now as it always has been.

It is not racial. The only thing unfair are all of the kids who do not get the admissions exceptions and privileges athletes do. But, let's not talk about that privilege.

It is so petty. They are attempting to leverage the current situation, which is for a just cause when not distorted, to get their initial wants/needs when seeking a bigger college pay check. They get 50% revenue, free school and 6 yrs Healthcare with only 2% going to the community. Such heroes... they are sacrificing so much... so much at the expense of college athletics as a whole

Covid-19 putting the pinch on athletic departments combined with the virus possibly cancelling the season actually makes it a terrible time to try this shite.

It's real simple they don't deserve half the revenues they don't deserve anything then a full scholarship to go to school for free it's not that complicated

Agreed. I don't have anything against players whose name use is worth something on the market, being able to profit from it. What I don't understand is the inconsistency of saying that a full ride scholarship is worth next to nothing, while liberals cry about the crippling debt of student loan that college students are saddled with.

I think it is about time to do away completely with athletic scholarships. Everyone is a student first. If you qualify to get into school under the same guidelines as every other student, or get awarded a scholarship, you can then try out for whatever sports team you want. Maintain the grades as a student, and you can keep playing. Don't, and you're put on probation and ultimately bounced.

Let someone create a semi-pro league for those who choose not to go the legit college route.

I'm amazed at how crazy these ideas are

If you get your way, the TV Networks won't renew when the contracts come up for renegotiation, that leads to the Money drying up and that leads to a shitty product that you won't support, don't LIE and say you will

Also, if you wanna act like the Players are normal students then the most fair system is to treat Saban & Dabo like any other Dept Head at their University and pay them about $300K and cap it at that and give them the same CoL raises that typical University employees get

Amazing how everyone wants to put caps, rules & restrictions on the Players while allowing everyone else in the Athl Dept to experience a free market cash grab

A full ride scholarship and just the networking you participate in just from being a college athlete can set someone miles ahead of other kids their age if the student athlete has his head screwed on straight.

That doesn't even include the rest of the benefits they receive.

And then all the best coaches will just go to the NFL.

Genius idea there buddy.

I guess you dont understand that the schools themselves pay very little of the coach's salaries...

Based on that logic tell Ed O that a capped salary of $300K is great when you consider the Networking opportunities that he'll be exposed to that will help him later in life

My guess is that Coach O will say "kick rocks" , Imma get my agent to negotiate for me to get as much Money as I can, in his case that's about $7 million per yr

The Athl Dept pays it in one way or another, the Athl Dept is an Independent part of the University

Ed O isn't 18 years old and when he was, guess what he was doing?

Being an unpaid student athlete.

I know its confusing but entry level workers in an industry don't make the same as someone who's done it for 40 years.

I'm curious about what you do for a living since you seem to have very little understanding of how everyday life works.

College football has been supported long before professional football existed. In short, you’re wrong. People support college football because of the schools not the players. Players come and go.

Sure there is. Internships happen all over the world. Also, these players are getting a lot of compensation already. Is it enough? It's not in my opinion, but to act like they don't already receive substantial compensation is insane

I can't believe you used the internship example -- P5 CFB isn't an internship

The 70 P5 Colleges combine to gross $5 Billion Dollars each year, that's big business, using the "internship example" is unfair

You know who has more money than amateur college football?

Professional football.

Isnt there another message board specializing in your grievances over professional football somewhere?

The tech industry makes more than $800 billion per year and is chock full of unpaid interns.

Peejay, a “GA Tech fan” exclusively posts on the SEC Rant and never discusses Georgia Tech ever. He’s a very odd person. At least the Clemson fans that post here troll about Clemson. Peejay only trolls about virtue signaling nonsense
