Although I 100% agree that Alabama got screwed in 66, I also 100% disagree that it's a claimable title.
We might not like it, but the polls didn't pick Alabama. I think politics and not wanting Alabama to be a 3 peat had a lot to do with it, but that's the history.

No matter the formula used, Alabama has more championships than any other program. GOAT program, the top 2 GOAT coaches, GOAT players, and now the GOAT season.

Yes they did. Go find the article with the goober professor in it from the 80s. That's when they started claiming them. I have a letter from Bryant himself written in 1980 on UA letterhead, his official stationary, and it lists 6 national titles, the six poll era titles. Like it or not, those made up titles were added in the 80s by someone at the university because 11 sounded better than 6.

I doubt it, friend. The pundits are in love with this team, and Alabama is being commended for dealing with the adversity covid presented.

Good to see someone with some sense. I love to frick with the gumps and claiming retro titles is a very B10 thing to do, but y'all aren't the only ones doing it so I guess there is comfort in that. Supposedly LSU has one or two they could claim but wtf would be the point of that

Meh. I dunno man. If you did it like they do, there would prolly be 150 titles claimed in the last 80 years by all teams.
All you have to do is ask sec fans about notre dame. If they did it the bama way, you’d have baws melting about how they did it.

There's a real feeling of satisfaction that comes from recognizing that the title of this thread has had to be updated three times since it was originally posted in 2013 to keep up with all the new Bama championships.

'Bama is the only program where the fans are fine with subtracting a few questionable titles.
There's plenty to spare.
And fyi, the NCAA website mentions Alabama 16 times as champ or co-champ. I don't think any Tide fan would argue with 16.
