LSU hired Saban in 2000 at 1.2 million per year. He was the second highest paid college football coach behind Steve Spurier at Florida.

Dinardo was making about 700K per year when he was fired.

Wrong. Blame the NCAA. Everyone could see this coming down the pike 30 years ago. What has the NCAA done to take control of the situation and avoid a debacle? Nothing. They are actually guilty of the laissez faire approach you accuse California of. At least California was trying to do something. The NCAA kicked the can down the road until it was too late to take meaningful action. Now they want to rely on congress to save their worthless hides. Too little, too late.

Thank you, they saw this thing coming...& tightened up due to their greed...with most Chancellors, ADs, School Presidents, and Coaches patting them on the back while they took their slice of the pie they kept from everyone else. Well, the chickens came home to roost...and we have chaos.

Were you not griping about how coaches make millions on the backs of the players?

This sounds like what Southern folks said post civil war: those union states forcing us to give up our slaves. It has ruined everything. We gave them room and board. They were happy to not get paid for making millions for white owners.

Bit of a stretch comparing slavery to college football, don't you think. I mean, before NIL there were Cam Newtons.

Covid started in China. NIL started in California. Facts are facts.

When Saban was hired at LSU in December 1999, he signed a deal that paid him $1 million a year. He was only the fourth coach in the country to make at least $1 million.

And when he signed that $4 million deal in 2007 with Alabama, you would have thought Saban was committing highway robbery in the eyes of the media. No coach was worth that much, they said! Now the average head coaching salary in the SEC is $8.1 million - over twice what we initially paid Saban to coach in Tuscaloosa.

I think we can agree that both of the situations are awful- slavery and 19th century working conditions for the non-wealthy.
I’m glad as a society that we have made notable progress on both fronts.
Sounds like we both agree that a person should be paid what the going rate is for their ethical labor regardless of race or socioeconomic condition.

According to Spotrac, Alabama players are making a combined $524,490,388 million in 2024, which is nearly $200 million more than LSU, which is in second place. Oklahoma ranks third with over $304 million

Slightly less than Auburn players were making 10 years ago

Assuming 100 kids on the roster, that's $5.25M/each, on average. I seriously doubt it's that high.

How the frick is NIL a liberal or leftist construct? Use your brain instead of rushing to kiss the cheeks of these dumb southern hayseeds. They'll never accept your midwestern asses.

Can you possibly be this dumb? The point wasn’t NIL. It was that libs ruin everything.

And I don’t give a fvck if the rest of the SEC accepts Mizzou. In fact, I relish it.

Well, that’s about to be deconstructed beginning on January 20.
