And just to add to these crazy numbers and put it in to perspective. I think we can likely agree the 97 LSU offense was the best ever. They hit 188 home runs in a single year. Their OPS was 1.019 that year.

Beat A&M twice. They averaged over 20 runs a game in the first 3 games of that regional.

I remember that being Memorial Day weekend and College Baseball scores were hard to come by. Coming home from the beach and stopped in Montgomery for something. I knew LSU had to win two so I saw LSU had won the first game and underneath it had 'Texas A&M vs LSU' not complete or something. But quickly glancing and having seen 'Texas A&M' first I assumed we had lost.

frick that motherfricking red-faced pitcher from Virginia. Got us twice.

He got us too. Went 9-0 in the 1st 9 postseason games but just couldn't get that 10th win to seal it.

Clark, Palmeiro, Thigpen and Brantley were all on the same TEAM at Mississippi State. If that was your 4 best players in program history it would be impressive. They were all on the same TEAM. Nuts.

I just know Palmeiro because he played for the Rangers haha. Idk who the hell the other guys are.

I could understand Brantley. He is a 1 time all star and never a household name.

Will the thrill Clark on the other hand is a stud. Not HOF good, but not too far off.

Brantley is on ESPN now and was a really good MLB reliever. Thigpen was a really good reliever as well.

002 Gamecock team was a damn good squad as well, lost to Texas in the finals, the year they had Huston Street and a few other studs. The Gamecocks finished the SEC at 21-8 and 57-18 overall. Team BA of .312 and a OBPS of .897 team ERA of 4.3 back in the day of Gorilla ball.

edit: more in depth statistical look at the team 2002 Gamecocks

This. That team was awesome, TX got lucky.

Down the rabbit hole but those Georgia Tech teams of the early 2000's, good grief.

2003
OF - Matt Murton (1st round)
SP/OF - Micah Owings (3rd round)
OF - Brandon Boggs (4th round)
C -Mike Nickeas (5th round)
2B - Eric Patterson (8th round)
OF - Jeremy Slayden (8th round)

Georgia squad that lost to Fresno was pretty stacked.

Gordon Beckham was one of the biggest "freaks" we've had in the SEC in a while. A ton of fun to watch.

Josh Fields coming in to close out games was super exciting as well.

2000, 2002, and 2004.

2000 didn't make the CWS, but the other two were pretty damn good and did. 2004 just ran into that buzz saw that CSF had and those awesome pitchers. Team was still pretty loaded.

Looking back our '09 team probably was our best shot to win it. Dallas Keuchel, James McCann, Mike Bolsinger and Drew Smyly are all in the majors now. College all-american Zack Cox and all-SEC Brett Eibner and Andy Wilkins on the team too. Of course some of them were freshmen and didn't play a lot and/or developed once they went pro (Keuchel).

Dammit LSU

Man, Keuchel, Smyly and Bolsinger on the same staff. Disgusting.

What about '98 LSU?

Look six posts above you. That's my number one team not to win it all. Many of those guys were on the previous two national champs and several were on the 2000 CWS champs.

A&M's best team ever though was 1989. They missed out on Omaha yet still finished #2 in the Baseball America (?) final poll. At one point they were 58-5 before the dropped 2 in a row and were eliminated from regionals.

I remember that team well. I dont think you guys lost a game until like halfway through conference season. Arkansas and A&M tied for the conf. championship that year. One of our better teams as well in 1989 making the world series but getting knocked out by eventual champion Wichita State. Damned Longhorns made the finals that year and they were like 4th in the SWC. SWC was stacked in the 80s.

Set the MLB single season saves record in 1990 with 57. Stood for 18 years until K Rod broke it in 2008. Still the 2nd most in history.

A theme oft repeated over the years amongst our SEC brethren. That was a really fine Hogs team and Keuchel could wind up in Cooperstown by the time he's done.
