Michigan in top 5, was not expecting that. Fordham at one is rather surprising too but they’ve been playing baseball for a while(first collegiate 9 man roster game featured fordham) and they were playing nine man modern ball while the pros still played by mass rules(no base lines, foul markers, could bean base runners out)

I was going since 1992 which is really the modern era of college baseball SEC wise. Tennessee has more regular season and conference titles tha arkansas, South Carolina, Bama, and Ole Miss since 1992. Tennessee is also responsible for one of the few SEC MLB hall of famers. Delmonico and Vitello both have had 8 year strecthes of being dominant. I think Tennessee is on the cusp of moving into the top 5 SEC programs if Vitello makes another omaha or wins another natty

I never said they shouldn’t be considered. But to say a team is “miles behind” when they have more national titles (and the 2nd most all-time) is stupid

It is? I didn't know that.

Even if so, then you probably aren't talking about "All Time" if you take away over half of the history.

Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Tennessee are fighting to be in this top 5. If Tennessee goes to Omaha again before either of these teams I believe they have surpassed Arkansas and ole miss.

Not trying to sound like a homer, because I am certainly not for Ole Miss...but Tennessee needs to extend its consistency quite a bit to be in the top part of the SEC baseball programs, IMO.

Nobody nationally views Fresno or Coastal Carolina has a top tier program simply because of winning a title. As no baseball fan in the SEC views Missouri or Georgia in the top half of programs in the SEC.

LSU would need to make the CWS every year until 2045 to just catch up to Texas (which assumes Texas doesn’t continue to make it to Omaha). But yeah 6 national championships, 6 more championship appearances, most d1 wins, 3 of top 5 winning coaches… they shouldn’t be considered
Half of those were 50+ years ago, when no one cared about or invested in college baseball. And half your titles were 50+ years ago.

But even talking all time, 7>6 titles no matter how you slice it.

LSU is not miles behind Texas, that’s silly, but Texas has made 38 of the 77 College World Series.

They are the most consistent top-tier program in college baseball.

It still remains to be seen if they can maintain the consistency with a few less hosting chances now that they have a tougher regular season, but credit where it is due.

Here is a fun thought exercise, if you limit it to the last 10, 15, 20 years - where does everyone rank. Does #1 tu even crack the top 5?

I don't know enough to argue or dispute the rankings in the OP.

What I DO know though is that this is a prime example of why it's so utterly fricking stupid when people pull for everyone else in the conference come postseason, regardless of sport. "it's good for the conference" they say, as if that matters one single iota.

UGA baseball was the first SEC program to win the CWS. all the way up through the aughts and culminating with our 2nd place finish in 2008, it was basically LSU, massive gap, then UGA, then the rest. But then SC won a few. Then vandy won a few. then a few other schools won their first as well. In a span of barely over a decade, UGA went from being the clear cut 2nd best baseball program in SEC history to maybe like 5th or 6th at best.

THAT is why pulling for the rest of the league simply because "muh SEC" is so dumb .

20 would include their last title, so I’ll say yes.

15 they’re probably on the bubble

10 probably not

Even though Texas has been to Omaha more than twice as often as LSU.

I would disagree.

Mississippi State was the first SEC program to take baseball seriously.

State had made 4 trips to the CWS before UGA made its first. Prior to LSU's run in the 90's, they were the best program in the SEC in terms of consistency year in and year out.

Since 1950, UGA has only made back to back NCAA Tournament appearances three times (1953-54, 2001-02, & 2008-09). While State has made multiple trips back to back and has had a long streak of 7 consecutive NCAAt trips over that same span.

This is just my opinion, but I have never viewed UGA toward the top half of SEC baseball, even with the 1990 title. Too many down/bad years and not enough post season consistency.
