I can assure you those will not be our starters by game 2, if even by game 1.

Our Oline is my greatest concern. I know the potential exists, but I would argue it has hurt us in the last 3 seasons almost as much as QB play, excluding Nick the Quick in 2014. Historically returning starts is huge. However, as of the bowl game last year we still didn't have a true left tackle. I guess at this point we are hoping James has a Light Bulb moment like Robinson did in 2013. James has the talent to do that IMO.
Most of us Boogs are cautiously optimistic about the OL, but they've got a long way to go to prove they are amongst the best in the SEC West, much less the nation. If they can protect Stidham on passing downs while still run blocking as well as they did in '16, then our offense will be pretty potent.
quote:If we go 7-5 I will be in favor of Gustav's ouster, because only piss-poor coaching would lead us to more than 3 losses based on our schedule.
Heh. Auburn goes 7-5 and fires their coach this year

Our left tackle hasn't even played a game at left tackle.
Shut the frick up

Auburn OL seemed soft last year. We were getting penetration at will

That shite was so stupid. Our staff thought it might be a good idea to try and block the #1 pick by sliding the fricking guard out.

And they kept doing it throughout the first half. Idk why
Posted on 7/28/17 at 10:11 am to texag7
Yea - I'm sure Auburn will be solid on the O-line, and having a QB who can run and throw will help them a lot, but I'm not totally sold on that being an elite unit (not sold on Alabama being elite either).

Not sure what we did differently in '15, but what we did in '16 sure as hell didn't work.

Coleman held his own against MG in 2016. Also, the pulling guard play is very common.
Our Oline last year was the 2nd biggest weakness on our team behind the crap show we had at QB. They rolled up weak DL's, but only averaged 134 ypg rushing against Clemson, A&M, LSU, uga and bama. (Those teams all share a common trait...they possessed NLF level DL talent)
We really didn't pass block well against anyone, but some of those other teams we ran it so well nobody noticed the poor pass blocking. We have a relatively high star ranking and a lot of returning starters. This is a positive. We don't have a legit LT on our roster that we know is ready to play. This is a negative. We have some kids with that type of physical talent, but we need James or someone else to become a real LT at this level.

I don't have a good feeling about starting two freshmen at OT, especially Wilson. He's a big kid and not used to the kind of speed or techniques he'll face at this level.
Man grow some..................

I think either Wilson or Thomas will win the RT job, and the one that doesn't will play LG. I would prefer Wilson play RT so we can get him developing there and Thomas on the left side of the line, with the future in mind.
I like This. Following Thomas's performance at camps shows me he is ready to step right in as is Wilson. May schools have excelled with true freshmen on the line.

It was. Hoping we are more physical and can control the LOS a lot this year. It will be the difference between 3 losses and
15-0 Ship!
