Im just saying LSU fans act like they can outbid any school for any coach.
My list of potentials in no order
Gary Patterson
Chip Kelly
Herman
And ill throw in Jimbo if he wants to leave FSU

wouldn't you add Gary Pinkel?
he clearly isn't ready to give up coaching, I'm sure he can fail to win a CC at another school and step into a big pile of shite at the same time.

why would Fuente and Herman be off the list, or were they ever on it?
If not why not?
Fuente is not off the list.
Herman is .... thank you Steve Spurrier.

It's not that LSU can't get a big name, it has more to do with some of the LSU fans thinking every coach in the country would leave their job for the LSU one.

They can do better than Kevin Wilson. This guy might be coaching for his job Saturday vs. Purdue. Let that sink in. At Indiana. He almost got canned last year. He started 4-0 this year vs a non conference schedule that would embarass any SEC school. He beat Southern Illinois by a point. He sucks.

I don't REALLY care a lot. And I'm sure LSU looks like a 'destination job' to the coaching fraternity.
Good program. Good heritage. Good recruiting. Good fanbase. Good money.
What's not to like?
So yeah, you guys almost certainly CAN get a 'big name' coach.
But you might not want to. You might want a young guy who is not yet a big name, but WANTS to be. ome of the names already in this thread, are guys who've proven they can run a program well and are ready to step up to the big boys table.
Someone who's BEEN at the big boys table for a while, might not have a fire left in his belly.
How many SEC championships has South Carolina won with Holtz or Spurrier?
How many championships did WE win with Ford or Petrino?
A good head coach from a mid-level...might be a firestarter. Just sayin'....

What makes you think LSU can? Arnsparger was the last coach LSU hired that could be considered a big name.
Before that it was maybe Bernie Moore.
It's this attitude that gets LSU in trouble so often. "We can get anyone we want!" inevitably turns into, "We hired WHO?" But then circumspection is not what LSU fans are known for.

I'd target Mora Jr.
Would be awesome but I don't think we can get him.
He turned down is Alma Mater to stay at UCLA.

It's a new era. Established coaches at mid tier schools don't have much incentive to move up anymore. They can pay just as well, have just as much of a path to make the playoff and their fans don't have as high of expectations.
The only advantage is making recruiting easier, but that's not as big of a deal depending on the coach and school.
USCw and Texas are the biggest two jobs in country, and they both took coaches from low level schools last time. UF too. He'll even Les wasn't a sure thing last when he was hired. Couple that with all the openings, some really big ones, I would be worried getting stuck with gamble.

If Chip leaves the NFL, it's going to be to USCw. It's also risky waiting for an NFL coach. If it falls through at the last moment, it will be January with all the other good coaches already have taken their new jobs.

Is not what I said.
I want Saban or Meyer. Or Belichick. Obviously we aren't getting them.
But a big name like Jimbo is definitely attainable.

Would excite the fan base with this hire. Wide-open offense and a great developer of QBs.

We don't support our coach or team if they stumble. We think we are better than we are. Our school is located in Baton Rouge, the arm pit of Louisiana.
We would be lucky if we could get the ULL coach to come to LSU.

Good coach, just likes to spread the love to the ladies other than his wife
Had AR doing pretty well

Always remember, LSU got Saban when he was a hot name at Michigan State that virtually every MFL GM had in their top five as head coach material.
You got him after he was damaged goods in Miami.
