And yet Sanford’s record is only a few off the record Tennessee just set and Sanford is not closed off like that dump in Knoxville. Don’t worry Vols fans that record of yours gets broken Saturday

It got over 105 back in the early 2000s before the addition.

Vols hit 125.4 vs Bama
I think we come close on Saturday

Truthfully, anything over 100dbs is deafening, the rest is gravy.

We did 130+ at several points
Sanford is a good stadium but I would say it’s the “quietest” of the Big 6, though still louder than 95% of stadiums out there.
I’ve traveled a decent bit and even “good” places like Washington are closer to Mississippi State level rowdiness than they are any of the major SEC schools.
And don’t even get me started on Texas

Buttercup, decibels are measured on a logarithmic scale. Kindly look up what that means.
Neyland also has no recording when it was at max capacity and the Vols were rolling late 90s to early 2000s when we could pack 108k in there. So the record is likely quite a bit higher.
To get 118 UGA probably had to stick their meter right in the endzone by the student section.

This is what I was thinking. Sanford definitely isn’t up there with Death Valley or Auburn when they are good but they are louder than Bama in big games.

Seriously...does anyone believe they are using calibrated instruments to measure sound wave pressure at these stadiums? Where do they measure it? Are they taking doubling effects into account from the microphone source to the crowd? They also aren't accounting for how different frequencies impact communication. It's just a BS measurement that shows relative sound levels from what they measured at that same point earlier.

And why does it matter? It can have an impact on communications for teams, but it doesn’t have to be as loud as all these measurements indicate to do that.

I agree with you. It's all horse shite.

Response thread is very very responsive.
We said Sanford was quiet, individual Dawg fans are loudmouth windbags.
Happy now?

Bama is next quietest, though probably not a fair comparison for me specifically as the LSU games have usually been massive. When Arenas returned the punt for a TD in 07 it was very loud.
Was there in 95, 01, 03, 05, 07, 11, 13, and 19. Vague memories of games in Birmingham in the 80’s
Went to Sanford when I was a young kid in the 80’s and then 09 and 13.
Went to Neyland in 06 and 11, it got cranked up pretty good in 06

I have not been to Tuscaloosa in a long time but BDS was extremely loud during the early Saban years. 2007 TSIO was easily one of the most hostile road environments I’ve ever experienced and that was before they had both endzones enclosed. They were out for blood when VOLS came to town for sure. A harrowing experience for teenage Da’Ricky to say the least
Im assuming now it’s a combination of that fanbase getting fat from all the winning plus with the renovations, the loud Bama reds/poors have probably been priced out of BDS imo

You’re right it was 06, 05 was the Katrina game

06 was definitely a good game and loud enough due to being a competitive game through out. Doesn’t really stick out in terms of noise level for me. Definitely not top 5 and probably not top 10. Probably could argue top 15-20 for Neyland.
Easily one of the most soul crushing games in Neyland though.
