Been hearing a lot of chirping from the Big 10...

So i decided to look at the numbers.
SEC average viewers per game: 5.2 million
Big 10 Average viewers per game: 2.3 million
Have won a natty in the past 30 years?
SEC Championship Caliber programs: 8 (Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida)
Big 10 championship caliber programs: 4 (Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan, USC)
NIL Spending:
Average SEC roster cost: $30.161 Million
Average Big 10 roster cost: $24.408 Million
2025 247 Recruiting and Team Composite Rankings:
Average SEC Team Composite Score: 861.87
Average Big 10 Team Composite Score: 769.56
The SEC is out recruiting, out spending, and out performing the Big across the board. A few fluke and suspicious championships does not erase 30 years of sec dominance. The competitiveness of the sec causes a more grueling path to a championship in the current watered down format. They can continue to change the rules to try and gain an advantage, but it really comes down to the sec having more fans and programs that actually care. A 2-8 Mississippi state is going to sell out home games in November. A 2-8 Rutgers is a practice game for the few big 10 programs that actually try to win.
It just means more.

I'm sick of their yankee and west coast bullshite. They are inferior to the SEC and need to be put back in their place. SEC needs to win every Big 10 matchup...starting with you Texas.

The problem with that article is using Neilson ratings. No sec network gsmes are neilson rated(where the lowest viewed sec games go) every big game is neilson rated. The rating only accounts for abc, espn espn 2 games. Basically the top 60 brand games with national viewership. The big network counts for neilson. So the big average viewership gets penalized for counting Rutgers vs Marshall. It really skews the results.

If you took the top 60 big gsmes averaged it and compared to the sec you’d have a better indicator.

Yea, I don't really wanna dive into that far, but I feel confident that people are tuning in for sec games at a significantly higher rate than big 10 games. It's just what we care about in the south. Some of these states don't even have a pro team, and pour all that passion into CFB.

Well you’re certainly entitled to think that but ppl in tv industry, the sec, and the big ten seem to all agree the viewership value is equal. Sankey isn’t well liked but I doubt the leaders of the sec are stupid enough to take the same tv payout as the big ten with double the national viewership. That math don’t math. Maybe the leaders in the big ten are just really great at their jobs and the sec is really poor at it but that’s way too big a viewer gap to be paid less for double the viewership.

Not much less, basically the same but yeah, the point still stands, double viewership, if true, with equal to less money needs investigation.

The SEC has had the most NFL draft picks out of any conference for 20 straight years.
The SEC has had at least 50 players selected in the draft for the last 12 years straight. Only 5 times in the last 30 years has another conference accomplished this, and zero times consecutively.
The SEC has 177 first rd picks since 2010. The next closest is the Big Ten with 98.
Next time you’re wondering why the SEC has the toughest strength of schedule, understand that no other conference’s teams are playing as many NFL players. It’s not remotely close.

Isn't that more about timing and setting the market? The SEC made their deal first, which established the market. The Big 10 capitalized, and would have been the only premier conference available at the time. It's like when the newest QB deal is the highest paid QB on the market... until the next guy works out his deal.

It would explain some maybe why the big makes more if they were slightly less than sec but not a double viewership difference. Especially in the span of a year and a half.

It could, for something as unique as this. Plus the covid inflation factor, 2020 vs 2022.
