They are bound by the school year though.

They generally finish school in those areas a full month later than most of us in the deep south.

Definitely makes it a regional sport. The Deep South and the west coast dominate the sport. I think a lot of those northern schools take long road trips at the start of their seasons just to escape their impossible weather. Sucks but I have no solutions.

That is not a couple of weeks.

February, March, April is still unusable fields.

Down South never had issues. Winter doesn't even need a weed-eater down there, lol.

Baseball is weird in College. You literally screw 75% of America early to gain an advantage to Nebraska...in August.

No one has any interest because you start too early, and you ruin the Sport, as a result.

Fascinating.

A bunch of us grew up in parts of the South where snow and sub-30 temps are still normal the first 3-4 weeks of the season (led alone the month of practice leading up to it).

Sucks for cold parts of the country but it is what it is. Baseball is a warm weather sport with a schedule built around warm weather.

$45,000 per year looks hilarious with Aluminum Bats.

That $300 Metal per game is going to suck for you for a Louisville in 2 years.

Dave Van Horn took Nebraska to Omaha before he came to Arkansas. Sounds like they have other problems.

Like high school or something?

The University of Nebraska is very much still playing division 1 baseball.

Travel. Every once in a while. Nebraska in August is Georgia in August. I live in Georgia and grew up in Nebraska. Nebraska in March is freezing while Georgia is 60 degrees plus. Wonder why 7 of 8 teams from the south are in the CWS. It’s not complicated math.

They love the sport, but they aren't thawing out until April.

By the way, those towns are awesome.

South Bend is very open to every sport, but Northern Indiana isn't exactly the best place to live at the moment. Wages are too cheap in the rust-belt.

Never settle for less than $22.00/hour up there.

Wtf are you talking about with Nebraska? They still play college baseball, in fact offered a teammate of my son's recently.

And the season starts in February because of the timing of the MLB draft. College players want to be done with their season by the time the draft comes around.

Too early.

Do you want to play in Iowa, Michigan, and Delaware in the dead of Winter.

February is not Baseball-Time.

Rivers are still frozen over up there and the Birds won't even come back until May.

Iowa starts in February like everyone else. Wtf are you babbling about? As I mentioned before, the MLB draft is why the schedule is set up the way it is. Has nothing to do with southern baseball.

They finish in May. And start in September. 4 months off for School-aged kids. Summer-school is non-existent. Baseball, however is very popular, but it is still -6 in Boston this weekend and the snow is still everywhere.
