Why do teams like LSU, Arkansas, and the two Mississipies keep pushing Baseball in February? It won't thaw out until May for most teams. That is 3 months away. Minnesota and the New York/Boston area are slammed with horrible baseball weather until April. Nebraska cancelled their baseball program, and Iowa only has State Championships in July for High Schools.

Everyone in the South starts baseball in January/February. From 8 year olds to college.

It is already an unpopular sport, but it seems like an unfair advantage for some teams.

They don't want any competition. That's why.

Minnesota dudes LOVE baseball, but it is "cancelled" if they can't do it in February. The fields are 3 feet under. It sucks.

That is not competition. That is an "advantage".

It does suck for college, but the season would be nearly impossible to finish if they waited to start games on April 15 unless they cut the season by 15 games (which they've already done a couple times).

Not sure why high schools and lower leagues feel the need to start early. They can do whatever they want and aren't bound by any national body or tournament structure.

So, Nebraska killed their program, Iowa pushed it to July, and Minnesota tried an in-door, and no one gave a shite.

Seems like an advantage.

College Baseball is weird.

Why not wait until May, when the Semester ends?

Because then they'd play the CWS in late August and those kids want to play in the Cape Cod league and 20 other summer leagues where they get seen by scouts everyday with wood bats.

It sucks but there's not a ton they can do schedule wise with it other than back it up a couple of weeks.

That's a god damned shame re: Nebraska, I had no idea they shut down their program. Seems like they were always solid to very good in the Big 12.

Michigan and Notre Dame have had two of the better programs in the country the past few years. Gets pretty cold in Ann Arbor and South Bend.

They are bound by the school year though.

Finals are in May. It sucks for teams outside of the SEC that like College Baseball. It is 3 months away and the weather in March is still in the negatives.

That is an unfair advantage.

I guess that is the way it is.

Thats probably why many northern teams go out west or come down south to play in February and early March
