Theory as to why they were so badly outcoached.

1) Clemson Played Notre Dame in round one
2) Alabama Played Oklahoma

No Special Preparation was necessary to beat Notre Dame.
Clemson could easily do a normal 1 week game prep for Notre Dame and still win the game handedly.
It is my hypothesis that Clemson used the Month between their CG and the Semi Final to prep mainly for Alabama.

This would have given them a distinct coaching advantage to handle Alabama.

Oklahoma Presented many more difficulties to prepare for than Notre Dame.

The first half Of the Oklahoma game showed that game prep.

They outcoached and outplayed us. Simple as that.

He stated that. Now he wants to debate why.

My $0.02 is that it was a combination of bama being unprepared and probably something along the lines of your theory that Clemson was preparing the entire bowl season. I've never seen bama so unprepared. Maybe it's related to the recent history of coaching attrition as others have stated. I didn't watch every bama game this year, but I don't remember any problems of unpreparedness. Maybe leading into this last week of football when every other team not playing in the championship game were working on coaching staff changes, bama coaches were distracted by their names being associated with other jobs?

Bama gets out coached a lot. Their NFL team usually makes up for it until they meet someone in the same stratosphere as them in terms of talent.

I don't think you'll get many reasonable Alabama fans that will argue about that. We have a lot of great recruiters that might not be the best game day coaches, and I bet that will be rectified.

It doesn't really matter why, Clemson was just the better team that night.

That could be part of the reason.

EVERYBODY knew they were going to face Alabama.

EVERYBODY prepared for Alabama in the first round while preparing for the other game.

Alabama had to guess which team they would face, so prep was not as sharp.

It is still no excuse. Clemson shut Alabama down in the red zone and Alabama had no answer or adjustment.

That's it.

Clemson whipped them into submission on both the OL and DL.

This was not Dabo vs Nick.

It was man vs child.

Clemson took advantage of the one weakness that Bama had, no pass rush. That allowed them to destroy the secondary. With an pass rush from the edge, Bama could have gotten off the field on 3rd and long.

This exact thing was debated at length on every sports show on the radio yesterday. It may have a little truth to it, but say Oklahoma upsets Bama in the first round. What then? Dabo would look foolish. And it would never come out that they prepped for Bama for a month without knowing for sure that's who they were playing.

If that played out and Oklahoma won out and it came to light that Clemson prepped for a team other than the two they actually played, that would be a fireable offense. IMO, Clemson just has a really great team and staff and just put an arse whipping on Bama. It happens.

Bingo. Saban has admitted he’s better at recruiting, evaluating, and developing talent than he is at in-game coaching.

Same as Clemson was outcoached last year. Prep by coaches is a lot but so is buy by players who are easily affected by media, hype and the upcoming NFL draft. And last year's game.

I think this is part of it. Venables has been DC since 2012. Elliott and Scott have been on the staff forever and Co-OC since like 2013 or 2014. Clemson is a machine just fine-tuning stuff at this point. Bama had that for a while but lately it's been a revolving door of coaches.

This year first year OC Locksley was already hired as the HC at Maryland and first year co-DCs Tupoi and Golding are definitely still a work in progress. Clemson out-coached and outplayed Alabama and it snowballed quickly after that second INT. Alabama went from running it down Clemson's throat and driving for the lead to an INT, long return and a quick Clemson TD. From that point on Clemson took control and Alabama never figured out how to adjust and get it back.

Because Saban valued ‘good recruiting’ over ‘good coaching’ when he selected his coordinators.
