I see your point about Mullen being a good coach since he's winning with Croom's players and Croom couldn't.

Were you one of the dozen players carted off the field today? Cap 1. What's in your wallet? Hopefully your medical card.

Shula left him all these draft picks to get him going...and left him some very good players at QB and on the OL

I guess those #1 classes signed because of Shula too?

30-10. Though it's just Mississippi State, so nothing too impressive.

Mississippi St. fans talking trash after winning their biggest bowl game in their history!!! OP is simply trying to start an argument...no one with half a brain would actually credit Mike Shula with the success Alabama has had over the past 3 seasons...Saban is the best recruiter and one of the best coaches/CEO's/Defensive Coaches in the game! DM will be lucky to win 8 games a year at MSU...RTR!

Saban is clearly the reason behind bama success lately. Why even say its shula?

Shula won 16 games his last 2 years in T-Town
He also lost to MSU, LSU, and AU (the 3 November SEC games) 5 of the 6 times he played them in those two years.
And the one game he won, we didn't score an offensive TD.
It's clear to anyone that knows anything about football that Nick Saban is one of the best coaches in the nation and an elite recruiter.
Dan Mullen may be able show people the same thing when he makes the jump to a real football program.

Well, that much is true. I don't see how anyone can even try to argue it...

i know this is the wrong thread but because you're a msu fan i figured i'd address it since it's bowl season and typical of the lower tier teams to coat tail. You're over paying a coach that can beat one team in the sec west...wouldn't worry about the buyout though, it will serve wonders keeping him from jumping to the likes of louisville or some other half respected team. and as a fan of a cow college, it's awesome to see your fat swamp donkey fans ringing their cow bells at places not starkville...cause seriously...that's cool. Honestly it's a cow bell...nothing says fun like ringing a cow bell.
just for redundancy purposes. You ring cow bells

Ingram and Richardson werent quite the animals they were made out to be without Johnson blocking for them this season.
Mike Johnson was an underachieving RT under Shula and "Bucket Step" Bob Connelly, before Saban and Pendry turned him into an All-American LG.
Shula used Javier Arenas solely as a return guy, and wanted to use him on offense, had Shula returned in 2007. Arenas was going to transfer. Saban turned him into an All-American DB and return specialist.
Most of the guys you mention were out of their natural position, and were grossly underachieving. Saban turned them into what they are now. Just as he did at LSU with Dinardo's leftovers. I mean if we're going to split hairs here, lets go ahead and give Mike Price credit too.

I'm pretty sure Sparky Woods is the catalyst for USCe's success in 2010.

actually agree with this. Mike Shula deserves as much credit as Nick Saban for the 2009 NC. Rolando McClain, Kareem Jackson, Mike Johnson, Javier Arenas...nuff said.
Rolo would've been at Bama no matter what. Kareem was a Saban recruit and a stroke of genius too boot. Areanas would be playing on defense under Shula.
