Alem was one of the worst DE's we have had in many years against the run and Bama rightly attacked him in '09. Montgomery and Adams appear to be much better players than Alem at DE, with Montgomery looking like a future pro. LSU and Bama are each others litmus test each season. Basically neither team plays another team all year that has enough talent to truly test every area of the team in terms of sheer physicality. Can our DE's stop the Bama's power running game? Can Bama's D-line hold their own against a truly talented O-line? We don't know because neither team has played against the kind of talent they will see on Nov. 5th. Thats why they are playing the game.
This!! We can speculate all day long but no one really knows shite. I am confident in my Tigers to get the W, but we have no clue how its gonna shake out.

LSU will stack the box and stop the run.
The LSU DBs are good enough to play man against the Bama passing game.
Claiborne, Mathieu, and Simon are top notch.

Nothing has changed. It's all just a result of the turrible teams Bama has played.
Don't forget, LSU has played a juggernaut pac-something team, a dominant big east team that just got caught sleeping against syracuse, and, of course, auburn. That's without factoring in potential trap games like that fcs team, and a surging mississippi state. LSU is obviously unbeatable after running that gauntlet.

This is no secret, Chief said as much preseason. His quote was that "we will stop the run with numbers and use our speed to pressure the QB" He knows he has DB's he can take chances with and he stacks the box against everyone.
In fact I like our chances better this year because there is no Julio on the edge to create a potential mismatch with our DB's. Bama has good but not great receivers that we match up with very well.

A Tide fan making jokes about someone else's schedule is pretty funny.
More cupcakes, anyone?

Agree all I am saying is that with my limited knowledge this is the only possible weakness I see against this defense is our size advantage on the edge. AJ has done a great job but he is not ready to carry a team yet; our offense which is really balanced only passes to keep the defenses honest and it is glaringly obvious the reason we have passed the ball so much the last three weeks is to prepare AJ for LSU. He has to have some confidence in his ability because it will be tested this game.

Well we return 4-5 and they're a year older, stronger, playing better as a unit.
I would like to say the same for LSU but the fact is they have completely re-tooled the D-Line because they were scared shiitless of Oregon. In an article in the Wall Street Journal, of all places, it described how LSU spent the last year evaluating the D-Line players on efficient muscle mass and actually had Brockers and Logan shed about 10-15 lbs down to the 305 -310 range. Additionally Les had them all spring and fall camps run against double offenses in prep for the hurry up O-style of UO. The result is some really big guys that can shed blocks really well. It will be interesting to see if they can turn that trick on Bama or vice versa.

I haven't seen a lot of Bama fans bragging about our schedule. You can't read a thread on this forum without an LSU fan bringing up yours.

I agree the DBs are good but they have a greater challenge than LSU this year. Last year you had JJ who was a tough cover for our DBs. This year it is LSU that has the tough cover in RR, a guy who proved last year that he could beat your secondary.

We're proud about winning road games over top 25 teams.
Sorry for partying?

Hate to tell you. We don't have a drake Nevis this year. Nevis was unblockable not saying our dline isn't better this year, but I think our interior was better last year

As you should be. All juggernauts, as previously mentioned.

For this game to be close it all falls on AJ's shoulders. If he can't pass against us then it's over and we win by 14! If he is more mature from what I've seen on making decisions with little Nicky staring him down; then it will be a slug fest. But I'm pretty sure he is going to look like Tyler Wilson against ya'll. Tyler is good, but he crapped the bed with a little pressure because he is Young/New to big games and pressure.

I dont agree. The sum of Nevis/Levingston/Brockers/Downs is less than that of Brockers/Logan/Freak/Downs. They have been much more consistent in penetrating the backfield. Granted Nevis alone, when he really wanted to, was prolly a little better than anyone we have this year. But he took a lot of games off and he wasn't THAT much better than Brockers of 2011.

i miss Nevis, he was pretty damn good. Freak has shown flashes but he's not as consistent as Nevis was. our biggest upgrade this year on D is at DE. last year we had really good DT play. this year, we have unreal good DE play. that let's the DTs do their thing.
our DL as a whole is much better. our DT play is not pretty similar, but our DE play is worlds better

The top three teams on both teams schedules are comparable. LSU's schedule is only slightly better
Oregon>Arkansas
WVU=PSU
MSU/UF (whichever you want to use)<UF (since Brantely actually played for one half against Bama)

Are you counting Miss St, who is winless in the SEC, and WVU, who just got run off the field at Syracuse, as top 25 teams still?
The only team out of LSU and Alabama who has won a true road game against a current top 25 team is Alabama.

I think it will be key to get ahead early and put the home pressure on AJ. Same goes for Bama, LSU has only been behind for about 6 min in the Oregon game all season.
