after hiring a new OC? Hurts is a great athlete and his running ability helps disguise his terrible throwing ability, but winning a championship with him is unlikely. Last season's defense was one of Saban's best, but still couldn't hold up in the title game because the incompetence of Hurts.

I've venture to say Sarkisian's refusal to run the ball after Bo went down cost us just as much as Hurts. Hurts did score the go ahead TD with 2 minutes left.

I wish we would. I'm tired of this spread shite. I think, like the mid 2000s with the pro style, the spread is kind of the standard, and it's the pro style that's become the unorthodox and hard to defend. Athletes are built to stop speed in this day and age. Alabama lost the game because we scored too fricking fast on Clemson most of the time.

Wouldn't it be just smart to let it all play out.

Saban has had 2 very mobile qbs and both couldn't get it done because they relied more on their legs than the pass. Historically, with Saban, bama is better with a pocket passer.

Do what now? Blake Sims threw for more yards in a single season than John Parker Wilson, Greg McElroy, AJ McCarron and Jacob Coker.

terrible throwing ability
relative to who, as a true freshman. As a true freshman Peyton Manning threw for 61% 11 TDS to 6 ints. As a redshirt junior in college Tom Brady completed 62% of his passes for 2500 yards, 14 TDS and 10 ints. It's like people can't comprehend that hurts was a true freshman starting and that QBs get better. Lamar Jackson won the Heisman this year, last year as a true freshman he threw for less than 2000 yards, 54% completions, 12 TDS to 8 ints.

People comprehend that he had one of the best defenses of Saban's tenure, maybe of all time and that holds him at a higher accountability.

Well the reality is that we have to dance with the one we came with....after Hurts we have two more scholarship QB's. A true freshman in Tua and another true freshman in Mac Jones. Now everyone thinks Tua is the real deal but we are faced with the quandary insofar in that making a change this season would involve starting a true freshman again and all the problems associated.

The title game was frustrating as hell as we had the plays/opportunities to win and playmakers open all night. Hurts either couldn't make the reads or simply couldn't hit them. To be fair, penalties and drops didn't help. However, I think we beat Clemson again with Coker and AJ would have shredded them. All the Bama sunshine pumpers assume Hurts will make some quantum leap forward in the offseason but I am not so sure. Having said all that I expect Hurts to start as he knows the system and the team wants him.

I think this is a bigger problem than his accuracy, mobile qbs depend on how their legs so after their first receiver is covered they'll take off. I believe athleticism is a great quality, but sometimes it hurts at the qb position. I believe that's the case with Hurts.

Agree completely. We are sort of forced to give him a pass because he is a true freshman and having to learn on the job and the complexity of the game at this level. The Kiffin drama during the playoffs didn't help i/m/o as well as Saban breathing down his neck about turnovers. His inexperience, inability at this stage to make reads and check down, Kiffin leaving, and the pressure of the big stage just led to a bad game.

Hurts is going to start this year I am sure....but I think A-Day will be interesting this year. every Bama fans favorite QB is whoever the back up is. It's frustrating not to have any stability at the position since AJ given our recruiting. We had 3 other guys in the system who are 5*/4* and we get a kid who can't be trusted to hit a slant or crossing route let alone connect on the deep ball with any consistency.

People absolutely kill this kid. I was pretty hard on him too but I mean come on, he was 18 last season. No one thinks he's going to improve?

The reason is what your HC hates the most..

Complacency. A lot of those kids walk in expecting it to be a cake walk to a natty.

I think Jalen Hurts is not one of those kids though. Think he improves as a QB. Don't know yet about his deep ball

I think he'll improve, but will it be enough to offset the losses on defense.
