i know it was houndstooth. what is the type of hat though, or does it even have a name? is it a fedora? TIA

I agree. There have been a lot of terrible Bama hats produced over the years, but that is the worst.

The funny thing is I don't remember te pattern looking anything like that, but a lot of bama fans wear that shite.

The fedora style hat has had a steady presence in casual men’s fashion throughout the 20th century. One of many gentlemen who wore this hat was University of Alabama football coach Paul (Bear) Bryant.
If there is one piece of clothing that is automatically affiliated with Bryant, it is the black and white houndstooth fedora hat.

He wore several different patterns but the houndstooth was the most famous. I think he wore that black and white plaid more than anything though.
