Bama fans, how do you feel about Gene Jelks?

I just stumbled across an old article chronicling his struggles with cocaine and alcohol, being homeless, and how he blamed Bill Curry for moving him from RB to DB. He thought Bama wronged him and his family, and threw the school at the mercy of the NCAA.
I wasn’t familiar with this story. Have the wounds healed or is he still an enemy of the Tide?

He told the truth about their filthy program.
They hate him with passion.

He didn't play a game after 1986, before I was born, so I know very little of him beyond what I've read and what I've seen in highlight videos. That run he made against Auburn in the '85 Iron Bowl was epic. I forgive him just for that.

He's been pretty open about how the decisions torments him to this day because it wasn't really true. I think most forgave him. He reconnected with his teammates, too, if I recall.

You mean he said what Auburn rogue booster corky frost paid him to say.

I'm surprised he didn't get the Logan Young treatment.

I... don't?

He was paid to lie. He’s since come clean and been forgiven for the most part. Involved with former teammates again. Pretty sure he’s been back to games and such.

It’s pretty well documented he was paid to lie.

No hard feelings for Jelks.
Gene led the 85 Crimson Tide RB's in most of the statistical categories.
His long TD run in the 85 Iron Bowl was epic.

We tried but some idiots had already filled it with toilet paper.

The last I heard of Jelks was a story about him helping out after the tornado. Good for him, he has many regrets and I have no ill will toward him. That was a hundred years ago, or in dog years - 7 national championships ago.
And he had a Bama t-shirt on if not mistaken. All is forgiven as far as I am concerned. If you ask about the lawyer involved I will have a slightly different perspective.

Some people will say things for money that aren’t necessarily true. JJ was in a bad spot in life and said some things which if he had it to do over would not have said them.

Well, since I've known him for 40 years, played against him in High-school and consider him a friend.. I forgive him and so have his former Bama teammates.
But Gene still isn't in a great place in his life. But he's trying
